who does the starting lineup say more about?

1) josh ogelsby - does his practice play and possible 3 pt ability give him the reason starting spot?

2) anthony clemmons - has he hit the frosh wall or is he really just a back up pg or is he lacking the confidence he had early?

3) eric may - would starting affect his game that keeping him as the 6th man gives us the best chance?

4) fran mccaffery - is his stubbornness just to much to admit that jo doesn't have it this year or he understands the pulse of the team and this puts our players in their best position to do well?

I have no idea what it is. If it were my choice I would have clemmons starting eventhough I think he is a back up behind gesell for the rest of his career.

No, but Oglesby does not hurt Iowa defensively and, for some reason, when is out there the opposing defenses are giving him a lot of attention (more than they should IMO). If I was an opposing coach I would force Iowa to prove they can beat me with Oglesby, even when he does make 3s he only makes 1 out of 4.

defense defense defense, Clemmons might be the best defender Iowa has. Even when he gets beat he recovers quickly (you see that block?).

No, it did not affect Basabe. May is playing really well right now, give the senior his minutes.

This repeats your first question.

You cannot start Clemmons with Gesell hurt, there is no other back up at the point.

1) Iowa only has one B10 worthy two and he has to play PG now.
2) Other teams have learned his game. He has no shot and so the offensive game he had earlier is now gone. This has as much to do with a freshman wall as anything. Film is a great defender. But yes, he is a back-up PG, which is really, really good in the long run.
3 and 4) If you start May you end up with JO and Clemmons on the court together for long periods of time. You need to be able to spread your strengths out. That being said, May does only have so many minutes in him. The dude has broken down in each of his last two seasons. He cannot play the entire game. He isn't that guy. So you have to play Josh now. Before MG got hurt Josh's minutes were evaporating. Now, he has to be played because of depth issues.

Josh reminds me most of Ryan Hogan. In his senior year, he was down to less than 4 shots a game and when he had to play more than that, it was not good.

But, remember this, Iowa has one scholarship going to a guy who is redshirting, another to a guy who should be, and one saved for a guy who is not eligible this year.

Next year you get a second B10 worthy two and a more than worthy B10 three to step in for May.

The starting lineup will be Woody, White, Uthoff, Marble and MG
The backups will be (this goes with the rumor of the RS at C) Meyer, McCabe, Basabe, Clemmons and Jok.

The question will be if Ingram and Ogelsby will stick around to be 11th and 12th options, or if they will seek more playing time elsewhere.
