Who can we get in 2011?

From scouting sites we have made quite a few offers, and some have been to some highly ranked recruits. Will we be able to pull in any of these recruits: Any thoughts? Or who would you prefer we get, even if not mentioned here.

QB:
Braxton Miller #1 - Tall, athletic qb with a lot of offers
Darrius Jennings #4- Short and quick, may be better for a West-coast/running offense
Cardale Jones NR- Similar to Miller, has OSU offer, and has had excellent reports

**I think Miller is a pipe dream, and I think Jones would be a better fit for Iowa

RB:
Jameel Poteat #5- Fast rb that is highly ranked, and highly pursued
Justice Hayes #21- Looks like he'd be a speed back to compliment our big bruisers

**several others, and I'm really hoping for Hayes as a change of pace

WR:
DaVaris Daniel #5- 6-2 180, 4.40
DeAnthony Arnett #8- 6-0 170
Evan Spencer #19- 6-1 185

**Many others, and WR is a must fill position and I think we take 2 or 3 guys. I like Daniel and Spencer and they are teammates with size and speed. We have offers to some Chaney type receivers that are fast, but around 5'9". Some other lower ranked recruits that seem very intriguing

TE:
Ray Hamilton #6- 6-5 230 4.7
Brian Miller NR- 6-4 215
Christian French NR- 6-6 230 (IA)

I would like any of these three and I think French would end up on defense, but not sure what the CJ signing has done

OL:
Cyrus Kouandjio #1- 6-6 291, same school as Coker
Conor Hanratty #8-
Austin Blythe NR- (IA)
Anthony Zettel NR-

**First 2 are OT others are guards. Like our chances with Blythe, and would love to get Cyrus. Don't either of the top 2 tackles will happen, but the 6-9 kid from nebby sounds pretty interested
DL:
Kris Harley #7 DT- 6-2 260
Curt Maggitt NR-
Aaron Lynch NR-

Will need some guys to fill in for current DL. Know last years class had a few, but can't count on them all to pan out, and we need depth depth depth.

LB:
Cole Fisher NR- 6-3 185 speed LB??
Deryck Gildon NR-

Last class had 4 LB, sow we won't get much. Fisher sounds like a Edds type and Gildon has had raving reviews

S:
Nick Temple NR- 5-10 200

Will need more depth here though we got 2 in last class. Bob Sanders type maybe, hopefully?

CB:
Dallas Crawford 5-10 NR
Jabari Gorman 5-10 NR

Need depth here. Only 2 offers as of right now.

Any thought and info on these guys. Let's hear it.

B. Miller is a no, Gorman, Jennings, Harley and Spencer are doubtful. Hayes will probably stay in-state, said he would have already committed to UM if they weren't so terrible over the last 2 years.

I wouldn't write off Jennings so quickly

funny i made this same post a few weeks ago and got blasted for it...

Actually you just asked about 5 star guys and one person said stars didn't matter, and several others (including myself) backed you up by saying yes we've turned some no stars into studs, but the guys we get that are star rankings sure help akaClayborn, Hunter, Ballard, Moeaki etc.

I wouldn't call that blasting by any means

Are we really concerned about being blasted on a message board? Here's a virtual lollipop to make you feel better so we can all get on with the rest of our lives.

If I have my facts correct... because he goes to Gilman, where KF's kids played under their coach when he was in the NFL... plus our recruitment of two of their players including the coach's son (Poggi) from last year. On the flip side of that, Jennings is quite a bit more on the radar than the other two were at this point in their recruitment.

I wouldn't say we are/were a leader, but to have that kind of "in" makes me speculate that we could potentially have a shot if the kid was open to Iowa.

Another tidbit - Kouandjio is from the same school as Coker.

I see your point, and made the point about Kuoandijo and Coker, however I'm not putting as much stock in the they were highschool teammates thing. I just don't know if kids think about that as much as where they will have the best opportunity to play and is a 5'11" running QB the best in Iowa's system? don't know, it worked with Banks.

Not saying I don't want them and would be more than happy if they came to Iowa, just not sure what our chances are. Would really be thrilled with Kuoandijo.

Yea, tried to edit my original post and give you props for the Coker mention- sorry again.

You were right on my train of thought comparing him to BB- Banks was a couple inches taller though, and not quite as "track" fast. A good point is the system- his athleticism might be better served in our system as a slot receiver which he may not be up for playing.

Agree on Kuoandijo- he's a beast!

from what I've heard Cardale Jones is an athletic QB too, but he's 6'4". If he can throw a good ball and run, that sounds like a winner to me. If Jennings can throw the ball, he could be really dangerous too though. KF must think he'll work cause he got the offer.

Agree on both fronts... on paper Jones sounds like a very interesting prospect. I think that the relationship KF has with the Gilman coach possibly helps understand character about Jennings- and KF feels comfortable about bringing into our system.

After all this Plano- I'd say my biggest concern is WR. We need a few young guys who can step in early and often. I like the two Ohio guys but fufred says doubtful. We got some intersting names up there and I can't wait to see how it plays out.

Not really worried about the WR early and often thing- Wegher ran in the multi-wide last year, and could easily see Fiedorowicz fit into that package as well. DJK, McNutt, Cheney, Davis, Sandeman and oft-forgotten (in the WR discussion) Redshirt Cotton, I think we'll be just fine. Plus I question how many times we actually go 5 wide this year (or the following year) with the number of RB's we have available and an unproven OL.

Critical year to pick up a couple/few WR's though I will certainly agree- it will be quite interesting to follow along and would be GREAT to pick up a potential marquee talent since there should be immediate opportunity if the player takes advantage.

2011- No DJK or Chaney or Sandeman
2012- No McNutt

That's pretty dang thin even if you want to go 2 or 3 wide. Davis is good, but we dont' know about any of the other young guys, and CJ will be at TE if he can learn to block. I say it's a necessity for a few WR.

I honestly think we'll be throwing a lot this year. Quick routes. The running game wasn't amazing last year with an experienced OL, but now with the new guys coming in, I think we'll be throwing to our weapons on the outside. Though I doubt we ever go 5 wide. But we have to look at the future. We are good for this year, and we will have McNutt opposite of Davis next year, but after that it is thin.
