White, Olaseni and Uthoff: The three-headed dragon

Our front court is playing great, and I think it can continue (Sans Seni, as he won't drop career highs every night point wise). Now we need some guard play or we will continue to go along with our front court.

If we could cut back on silly turnovers and had a legitimate threat behind the arch, we would be a pretty darn solid team. We need guys like Jok, JO, or even MG to start hitting 3's consistently. It's amazing that our big guys score as much as they do when the guards shoot as poorly as they have so far this year.

Very happy to see Uthoff stepping up and looking to score more and more, this team absolutely needs it. What the hell has happened to Gesell though? This looked to be on his way to being a 15+ ppg scorer by the time he was an upperclassmen as a freshman and now looks like he's scared to shoot.

Uthoff = Keith Van Horn, for those of us old enough to remember him.

Ut looks like a stonger, more confident version of himself as compared to last year.

A poor man's KVH, but that is a good comparison. And yes, much more confident, which is huge. Love seeing him pull up for 3's in transition now, we need all the scoring he can provide us.

Three-headed snake. They're deadly and can strike anytime.

There aren't many (if any) front courts in the Big that can match Iowa's depth, talent and experience. It should be Iowa's biggest advantage and it certainly was last night.

We need them, considering the guards went, what, 2-13? Gessel/Jok/Ogels-three were Oh-fer.

I loved it when he took it straight to the basket and attempted to dunk over the NU defender.....got the foul and went to the line. He looked much more willing to play to contact against NU than I remember him doing at any other time. He can be scary good if he consistently started taking it at the rim, just imagine how many open looks he could then get out on the perimeter.

Three at that position can be more consistent than banking on 2-3 guards to bring it every night. That is a good thing. They style of play at those positions can provide similar point opportunities during games. White can get to the free throw line.

Guards shooting 17 ft out can be pretty inconsistent, especially on the road.

Oleseni's free throws have really improved since he came here. He used to be a liability at the line. Now, he's damn good at the line. That's huge and makes up for points Woodbury doesn't get. Why can't a 7' 1" player consistently get at least 10pts a game??? That's baffling to me. They should at least get 2-4 buckets on rebounds & putbacks, IMO. Seriously, someone that tall should be hovering around 15 pts a game. Us shorty's get pizzedd about that!! :p

The only thing that appears to be lacking for Uthoff is confidence(but appears to be growing) and a killer instinct. Once he understands he is one of the best players in the league and its ok to shoot the ball anytime he has an open shot,he will be a hell of a player. Defenses will focus on him and that will open it up for other players.

People talk about how bad Wisconsin is going to destroy the league. Imagine how bad it would be had Uthoff stayed.

Nebraska stayed in a pretty solid man-to-man much of the game which historically has caused the current guards a bit of difficulty in getting their points but should we see more zone sets which I believe we will there will be games were Jok or Gesell or ?? drop 15-20pts and that is the balanced scoring options that could help make another NCAA.
