White and Freshman of the Year?

First time post, long time lurker.

Just wanted to know the general thoughts of Hawkeyenation as to whether White is a potential candidate for B1G Freshman of the Year. I am not sure about the performance of other freshman this year, but I was wondering if anyone knew how White stacks up statistically against other B1G freshman. Not trying to put unrealistic expectations on the kid, but I would have to think he at least makes an all-fresman team.

Thoughts?

Looks Zeller all the way. I still hope White can somehow make an all-freshman team.

Either way, he has been a good surprise. I hope he can continue to develop.

I agree that he will be on the all-Freshman team. But for B10 Freshman of the Year I think Cody Zeller and Trey Burke are well out in front of the pack with Zeller having the edge right now.

With Zeller and Burke, White has no chance for FOY. He is still having an outstanding year and I would think easily makes the all froshy team.

The consensus is:

1. Zeller
2. Burke
3. White

The scary thing is that both Burke & White are from Ohio. Burke is a Columbus kid & played on the same high school team as Sullinger. However, O$U didn't recruit either of them. Like football, the Bucks recruit at a whole different level than Iowa.

Yeah, hardly seems fair. I am hoping Fran can use the same stuff he used at Sienna to be a thorn in Matta's side. Here is to hoping.

the big thing to remember in looking at stats is both Zeller and Burke started from day one White did not start til a couple of games ago,
what i would like to see is what the stats are for BT games only look like
as of now White is averaging 10 ppg as a non starter

White gets a lot of minutes, though, even if he doesn't start. Plus, there's more to it than stats, and Zeller/Burke beat White in the eyeball test right now. Plus, they play for Indiana and Michigan.

Let's get this correct...keep in mind that Burke commited to Penn State very early in his junior year, but then opened his recruitment up in February of last year, I believe. By that time OSU had no scholarships available, it wasn't that they didn't recruit him, he wanted to go there, but no room.

OSU was after Burke very early, but he eliminated them early, his dad went there, maybe he was trying to make his own name or something...who knows, but he had a change of heart too late.

FWIW, Burke was the most impressive player on that HS team in Columbus that sent 7 or 8 kids to major college basketball.

White on the other hand, yeah, he didn't get a look from OSU, but with DeShaun Thomas and Sam Thompson, it is obvious why. This is not a knock on Aaron, just reality...

yup White playes for Iowa, he has no chance, Zeller playes for Indiana and Burke for Michigan so they have to be all world, because Iowa players have to bow down and beg permission to be on the court at the same time, with these superstar's,
Burke was the 25th best point guard and a 3* while he was committed to PSU, after he changed to Michigan he ended up in the Top 100 at 84th and the 15th best pg.
just goes to show how committing to a name school can change perceptions on a kid
Burke starts for Michigan because they have no one else to play the point. since Zeller is so good with a team loaded with 4 top 100 players and a McD AA, why are they in the middle of the pack with Iowa;
White did not play during the summer Evals due to a broken wrist so he never got the stars, or the preseason pub
as a 3* unranked kid all he gets is the slow unathletic needs 2+ years to develope tag,
without that 4th * that people say doesn't matter, gets the "he can't" compare label

Burke was ranked 128 when he decommited from PsU and finished at 142 after committing to UM.

I understand what you are trying to say, but your arguement holds no water here.

If you had watched Burke play in HS, you would wonder why he wasn't a top 25 - 50 recruit, it isn't his fault he was overshadowed by Sullinger.

White is a player that a lot of people in Ohio knew was for real, yeah he missed out on some of the evaluation periods, but that is only rankings.

Here is the thing Herby, I love Aaron White as much as every other Hawkeye fan, but Zeller and Burke have outperformed him. That is not a knock on White, Iowa is lucky to have him and that Fran got him when he did.

Bottom line is there are four excellent freshman in the conference this season, throw in Sobolewski (who had Iowa in his top choices) and you have some players.

Just stop... zeller and burke are better than white and thats ok.

One big advantage for Fran is that he will have guys like White, Marble and McCabe for four years while Ohio State will only have its stars for one or two. That is a great equalizer for the developmental programs.

Zeller has B1G freshy of the year in the bag i think if white finishes strong he will make an All-Freshman team!

Sullinger will likely go pro but the rest of the team seems to be four year guys.
