Where to stay: Ft Lauderdale or Miami?

Where are people staying? I don't know Miami very well and was going to just Priceline a room somewhere but wanted to get some input.

Would prefer a beach hotel, what would those go for on Priceline?

suggestions?

I am staying at Fort Lauderdale Sheriton by the airport - stayed there because I have free points to use - I am assuming a lot of the charter trips are downtown Miami or South Beach. All depends on how much you want to spend.

MCHawk,
Have you ever thought about renting a condo / townhouse / home for a week instead of a hotel. There are websites that help you do this very easily. Check out vacationrentals.com or homeaway.com. You can usually pick up a very nice place for the same price as a hotel room.

I am staying in a condo on Miami Beach. I try to NOT stay in hotels whenever possible.

I am staying on South Beach but hotels are very expensive there. Costs me about $175 per night. Hotels and Miami are very expensive. Didn't price out Ft. Lauderdale.

Have you considered staying in a condo/townhouse/home rather than a hotel. I think it makes your stay much more comfortable and usually doesn't cost much more than a hotel room. Check out vacationrentals.com or homeaway.com.

I am staying on Middle Miami Beach.

It really depends on what type of experience you are looking for. You can find cheap "motels" in either Miami or FLL. South Beach is more of a "start partying around midnight and go clubbing" type of scene. FLL is a bit more relaxed, probably less expensive for the most part and better for families. You can go to the beach without staying on the beach if you want to save $$$$.

As for me, it's the Marriott Ft. Lauderdale North. $125 per night. Good property. Safe, good location right off I-95 and just as close to Dolphin stadium as South Beach.

Really, to each his own.
