I said Woodbury was decent tonight. Just feel like arguing to argue?

Olaseni has more points, rebounds, and blocks in less minutes than Woodbury. Iowa plays better when he's in the game. Olaseni needs to play 20+ minutes a game.

Woody and olaseni have similar +/- stats for the year...7.8 (olaseni) and 7.5 (woody)

but in the big 10 woody has a 5.3 and olaseni has a 0.3...so the team doesn't play better when he is on the court as they are basically breaking even in points.

Once more, it's not about numbers! Woody is in better defensive position than Gabe about 90% of the time. How did Valentine get is one (and only) dunk last night? That's right, a weak head fake got Gabe in the air on the perimeter. Shortly after that, Gabe went out of the game.

Yes, Gabe gets more points, rebounds and blocks. He averages about one minute per game less than Woody (15.3 to 16.6). However, there's more to playing basketball than statistics. The team plays better defensively when Woody is on the court, even though Gabe has more blocks. Woody sets better picks for the cutters - more open shots for others doesn't show up in any stat. How many times has Woody thrown a perfect pass to a teammate underneath the basket only to have that player miss the bunny?

Last night, we saw a lot of nice post moves from Woody, and several excellent passes that were not converted into points. (I guess that's Woody's fault because he doesn't put up better statistics, right?)

... was Oleseni the 2nd half? I think woodbury had way too many minutes.
I already pointed this out...Fran was too busy kicking the scorers bench and blowing a gasket to coach the team the last 15 minutes of the game...as was his right hand man...busy ragging on the refs instead of coaching...we went to the end of the game with a full compliment of time outs...even though we went 15 minutes without scoring a field goal.

Not a shot at all at Woody, but Gabe is an energy guy. During the 15 minute drought we needed that energy to snap out of it. Woody gets fouled going for a layup in the paint and misses two free throws. IMO he needs to go up much stronger. That is a situation where a dunk and the foul could have snapped the run, got us clicking again, and swung the momentum our way to guide us to a win.

Again, not dogging on Woody at all, but the fact is that we were struggling and really needed that energy. I think Woody and Gabe are both solid players but I think Fran needs to give the minutes to the guy that is feeling it. I'm not a basketball coach, but after the way Gabe played in the first half, there's no way I'm going back to Woody in the second half for anything other than to give Gabe a breather.

I agree with this 100%. I definitely think a few should have been used while in our drought and I definitely think that one should have been called after the lay up that got Fran T'd up. By no means am I saying that we lost because of the technical, but IMO you get that T on a dead ball and not in the flow of play. I also think that if he infact got it for leaving the coaching box then we he doesn't get T'd up.

Fran's a passionate guy. Use the TOs to motivate your team and light a fire. Don't let them go to waste while we're out of rythem for 15 minutes trying to figure out what a made basket looks like.
