Where is the state of Illinois?

Do we need to recruit Illinois as a whole more or specifically Cook County?

Hey John - Kurt doesn't tell you how to blog, don't tell him how to recruit! I'd like to see you get Iowa to back to back to back top 10 rankings.

Iowa had a hay day in the early to mid 2000's. Illinois sucked, Notre Dame sucked & Mich St was down. The Zooker came so recruited well and Notre Dame started to get their crap straight & now are good. Mich St. is on a level they have never been on. Also, Illinois is recruiting pretty well. So, it's become a much tougher place to recruit which is not an excuse. They need to figure out a way to pull some players from Chicago & Illinois.

69 offers tendered so far, of which 7 are in Illinois (vs 6 this year). Ohio leads the list with 10. Just 1 from Iowa.

And we brought in one top ten class that was filled with fat cats, how did that work out? Not well. Kurt isn't making that mistake again. Give him some hungry two star recruits over some fat cat four star recruits all day.

This was my general thought at first, but MSU had only 1 signed from Illinois and Notre Dame had 3. Illinois actually only had 6.

Mistake? It worked out fine. Moeaki, Richardson, Eubanks, Doering, Stross were all significant contributors, but all hampered by injuries. Christensen, Bain, Blum, and Kalvin Bailey didn't work out. Kanellis' career was ended by injury: http://iowa.scout.com/story/675803-howe-kanellis-story-a-sad-one

I wouldn't call any of them 'fat cats'... maybe Bain and his dad. Kirk did use that term in 2006, but it wasn't directed at these guys who weren't yet seeing the field.

Silly post. The crazy myth endures that this class somehow proved highly-rated players are "bad".

Illinois is a basketball state. It is like Indiana & Kentucky. The good athletes play basketball. In Ohio, the good athletes play football.

So all we got out of that class was a couple of guys who couldn't stay on the field and Terry big game drops Stross. Ever heard of Dallas Clark or Robert Gallery or Pat Angerer? They may not have stars but they had heart and they took the program to some great places.

You forgot Bob Sanders!

Remember, the exceptions prove the rule. Your logic is rock-solid: Because Bob Sanders and Dallas Clark, we should ONLY recruit low-rated players.

That was going to be my question. What was there to pick from there this year? I had no clue. If this was a down year there and we weren't in on any of them or had no chance then it just is what it is.... But yea if there were 30 some 3 and 4 star kids surely we can out arm wrestle Illinois/NW for some more.

NW landed quite a few this year.
