Where does this loss rank?

I'm 45 and honestly this has to be one of the worst losses I've seen. Top 5?? Thinking it could be..

Iowa lost to a 3-9 football team.......meh, the hawks are just a 7-5 team. fits in with all the other ISU losses.

It goes into the grab bag of garbage with Western Michigan, various ISU losses, Central Michigan, Northern Illinios, various Minnesota losses, various Northwestern losses, various Indiana losses, and on and on...

It honestly hard to to sort out which is the worst at this point, which says something all by itself.

At halftime even with Iowa up 14-3 fans should have been able to recognize the major problems with this team:

-Iowa is a power running program and their leading rushing at halftime was JR against a team that was gashed by 2 previous opponents
-QBs with average accuracy & athletic ability are going to move the ball with ease on this D
-KF didn't trust his kickers to even try a 35 yard FG, when everyone cheered going for it 4th & 8 they should have recognized that this is not Iowa, something is clearly wrong for him to go to that extreme

This isn't a bad loss, not even close. ISU is better than Iowa. They deserved to win. This team reminds me of the BBall team late in the season. You see some pieces, you keep wondering and hoping that it will click. But it just isn't there.

I don't know how it could get much worse than this. Pathetic opponent. Plus we actually had what should be a decent team with our talent this year but horrible coaching killed that.

All Powell has done is make big plays when given the chance but Ferentz seems to have know interest in making that happen.

Canzeri had a couple of nice runs in the first half and never got another touch. All the while Bullock is running repeatedly in the second half, getting tackled at the line of scrimmage after missing a cutback lane that you could drive a Mack truck through. He's not a running back and never will be.

And a quarterback who won't throw downfield. He's already scared to death to throw the ball but on the possession after the interception he **** himself. It was obvious that he was not in a good place mentally there. He was like a pitcher who just gave up a couple of home runs and mind isn't right. If you're not gonna pull him in that situation just punt on 1st down cause your offense has no chance.

Clock management doesn't even need to be mentioned any more. Even during his good seasons he was the worst coach I'd ever seen at that.

If an average coach goes out there and just uses basic common sense Iowa wins this easily. This was a perfect storm of everything a coach can possibly do to **** up. This wasn't just any storm, it was a giant **** storm, they'll be picking up corn and peanuts around Kinnick for weeks.

So yeah, in my opinion this loss ranks pretty high.

It depends. This loss strikes me as bad enough that I will now cling to idle fantasies of this staff coming to their senses, blowing up their offensive philosophy, and TRULY making changes to the way they conduct the offense. If that happens, then this loss will be a good thing, no matter how horrible.

If Iowa sticks with this offensive philosophy, which I cannot understand or follow, then this loss will be the one that finally put me in the bitter anti-Ferentz crowd. Not taking any risks on offense is as risky as chucking it downfield and hoping for the best.

I will be very surprised if they commit to any philosophical changes, so for me, right now, this is the worst loss I can remember. It's the middle of September and it already feels like this season is lost.

Which I do not get because he is a smart, well-organized person.

with a tougher schedule this Iowa team doesn't go to a bowl because of coaching idiocy. But they'll still manage 6-6 somehow. Honestly this loss is bad in terms of how different in talent both teams are but that talent doesn't see the field on offense, only guys who "practice well" do. That's all fine and good for middle school but fails badly in college regardless of division level, let alone a power 5 conference.

so, back to the original question. Bad loss, very. Top 10 worst losses in the ferentz era, yup. But who actually felt this was going to be a cakewalk given what you've seen offensively the first two games of the year?

ISU did come to within a hair of beating a top 20 team last week and they had a meltdown against the FCS champions. They might be 0-2 coming in but probably everyone else save MSU in the B1G would be as well...

Meh, when you pile up all the losses on the KF dung heap, does it really matter which turd lands on top and which on the bottom?

And that is the sad state of the Big Ten.

I've watched Frank Laterbur(sp) and Bob Commings coached teams and this matches quite nicely with their efforts. To put it mildly, Kirk, his coaches, and team laid an egg today.
