Where does Marble go next year?

The exciting part when talking about "next year".. is that (on paper, and outside of May) every single one of these players will be back the following year.

not sure how anyone can say Ingram has better skills than May as he hasn't stepped on the court in a Hawk uniform and there is little to no video out there on him that i know of,
Marble took 41 3's and made 11 for 26%, he has taken 27 and made 8 for 29%, when he doesn't shoot them nobody can make the claim he can't.
his father didn't extend his range until his jr year, if Marble goes 2-3 from 3 in the next couple of games his avg jumps to 33%, lets wait till he put up 75-80 3's before determining his ability to make them, as for where he playes he is more than quick enough to play the 2, as for dunking i think his dunk over Sampson that is up for play of the year speaks for itself and also speaks volumes about his athletic ability, White is a outside-in player and is a matchup problem for the other team, he can hit the 3 and finish at the rim, something i wish Basabe would do but only the otherway around be a inside-out player that plays mainly inside that can step out and hit a occassional 17-18' shot

Really? May has the ball-handling skills of a decent 7th grader. His shooting is below avg-avg. He's indecisive, can't create his own shot, doesn't provide any match-up problems for opponents, and is an avg rebounder. Other than taking up space and O2, what does May offer?

i suppose having a back injury has nothing to do with a players ability to play, which by the way he has had for a few weeks, he almost didn't play last night because of this, last season in the confernce part of the season he suffered a groin pull/injury, since i never had that type of injury and not knowing anyone who has, i have no idea how it affects you ability to play, May has been battling injuries for 2 years now, he may never be back to full playing ability,
we will have to wait til his senior year to see if he can stay healthy for the entire season, this where Oglesby can be a big help and will allow Marble and Oglesby to be on the floor at the same time,
if you could post a link to Ingrams video i would love to see them as i have not had the pleasure in watching any, nor have i seen any on Clemmons, but Meyer,Woodbury and Gesell i have seen enough video that are very impressive especially video of Woodbury playing in the NBA Top 100 camp where he won the MVP award going up against players of his size and skills.

He came in with the reputation as a shooter from the arc. He needs to shoot 1000 shots from the arc every day this offseason. He made a good improvement on his mid-range game from his frosh to soph year, and he is still the youngest guy in the rotation. He will continue to build strength which also will help his range.

All that being said,I see him as a three who can score anywhere on the floor. He is a good rebounder even with his slight frame,so I am fine with him as a point forward type of player. Versatile is good at all positions.

What recruiting article said Marble was a shooter? All I've seen him do is pass up open 3s to take tough long 2 pt jumpers off the bounce. He's a pretty good slasher with a good midrange game. I'd love to see him get stronger and go to hole harder and obviously improve his 3 pt shot.

Are you seriouly trying to blame his lack of basketball skill on a few injuries?

One of the "lost arts" in college basketball is mid-range game: the ability to penetrate and then pull up for a short-range jumper. Most players either want to shoot the 3 or take it all the way to the hoop. Marble has a pretty effective mid-range game already. With this, he can score a lot at SG.

First of all it's not 2 feet behind the NBA line (23'9), second a SG should command respect out to 24 feet. They don't have to necessarily shoot it regularly, but they need to draw a defender. An unguarded SG at 24 feet takes one step in and comfortably shoots a 22 footer.
lol... sounds like they need to command respect out to 22 feet.

Then I guess you don't understand how perimeter defense works. Next game look at gatens or oglsebys defender, and watch how they try not to give them room to breath inside 25 feet. Gatens is at best a slightly above average "shooter", he made several last night from 24.

Im waiting for you to go off on people for hating on May. Have no mercy!!!

First off, I think May's recent struggles have been injury related, but he had other problems that preceded the injuries. It's not like being injured helps your game when you already have problems with it, especially when a lot of the good things you did do were predicated on your great athleticism.

Speaking of athleticism, I think Ingram will be an interesting player to compare to May, because I think he can serve that athletic and built tweener guard/forward role that May should have excelled at. The problem is that since his freshman year May has never seemed to pull all the pieces together to become the player he could be, he just seems kind of lost out there, on offense anyway. Ingram might not be the athlete that May is, but he could be more of a natural basketball player, if that makes sense.

Of course May could still have a great senior year, and that would be good news for everybody.

As for where Marble goes, I like it when he brings it up the court and initializes the offense, and Iowa has lost some of that momentum from when he was PG. I don't really care what position he plays (guessing he'll be on the wing) but Gesell has already shown he can both be a point and also a SG when matched with Paige. Why not have Marble bring it up and take some pressure of the freshman PG? That's the sort of flexibility with next year's lineup that I hope Coach Fran can exploit.

I like Marble's game better with the ball in his hands. Decent passer and could get better in that area. Sufficient ball handler. What he brings that is unique is the ability to brk down his defender and get a shot off at the end of the shot clock with his long frame.

Its just common sense to assume that Fran is not offering anyone who could possibly have worse offensive skills than May.

If he is, then he needs to give up the job right now.

Its become obvious over the last few games that Marble is not a PG. Hes not quick enough on offense or defense.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Clemons playing point next year with Gessel at the 2 and Marble at the 3. The biggest need for improvement on this team is perimeter defense and that would give us the quickness to finally be able to guard people and also to be able to run like Fran wants.

I think the main rotation at the 1-3 is going to be Marble and the three freshman with a bit of Ogelsby. May should go out for football.

White is not going to play the 3 much if at all, I though he might be able to earlier in the year but he is no where near a good enough perimeter defender.

marble will play all three spots (1,2,3). i think he will log the fewest minutes at the 1 and the most at the 3. i see him being a 30-35 min man (and the only one other than maybe white logging 30 min). 15 min at 3, 10 min at 2, and 5 min at 1. i think the starting lineup will be gesell, ogelsby, marble, white, woodbury.
