When was your first Hawkeye football game?

Mine was in 1999 for the Floyd of Rosedale game. It was a rough season and we were looking for a salvaging win against our biggest rival. It was close, I think we only lost by a field goal.

Even in that clunker of a season with a weak crowd at Kinnick, I knew I was hooked on Hawkeye football from that point forward. It was Ferentz first year, and a lot of people were calling for his head after that season...really glad we hung on to him and his coordinators!

1980 against Illinois. It was colder than sh!t and the Hawks lost, but it was still a great time.

1997- IA vs Purdue. We won that day, super cold but i got to see TD and Tavian Banks. Pretty cool for a middle schooler.

Dawn of a new era!
Yeah, they were a year away from the season the would ultimately change Hawkeye football forever. Even though I was a youngster at that game, I can sound like one of the old farts and proclaim I remember the Hawks before they were good.

Iowa vs New Mexico State. Sat in the front row in one of the end zone so got to grab some Kinnick grass. Don't really remember the game but I do remember not sleeping the night before.

1970 versus the Badgers.... we won! One of our 3 victories that year, which included 3 non-conference defeats to, and get this, USC, Arizona, and Oregon State! Hawks played a lot more of the big boys back in the day folks! We did get beat 48-0 I believe, by USC in Iowa City, but still, no Southeast Barber Colleges on the schedule back then.

1974...Archie Griffin came to town and ran all day long. I was 12 and there with my boy scout group.

1960 vs Wisconsin. Hawkeyes ranked #1 after the win. Have only been to 5 games. Most recent was 2010 vs Wisconsin. I brought my 50 yr old 1960 program with me for luck. Didn't work, but crowd noise was impressive right before that sickening fake punt. Needless to say, the 1960 game was more fun, as Iowa pulled out the win in the final minute.

First Hawk game was the first game of the Ferentz erA agianst #2 Nebraska. It was 7-0 Nebraska at the half. Eric Crouch came in for Bobby Newcombe in the 2nd half and Nebby never looked back. I was 13 years old my best friend Julian Flemisters big brother Zeron Flemister was a TE at the time it was the first and only game he got to see his brother play at Iowa. We then got to tour the Iowa football facilities after the game. I will never forget that afternoon.

1981 Iowa/Nebraska game. Went to every home game that year and was hooked on Iowa Football ever since.

November 3, 1962. Iowa over Ohio St 28-14. Video here:
