When pigs fly...

Goofer QB Adam Weber was quoted at Media Day talking about Minnesota's last game of the season. He indirectly predicts a win for the goofers and then immediately backs off. I'll go out on a limb, a very very sturdy limb, and say Mr. Weber will be lifting Floyd in victory only 'when pigs fly'. I agree with him that the game WILL be great...for HAWKEYE fans.

Weber: “That’s a big one. That’s definitely a big one. It will be a big one for our whole entire state. Regardless of how the season goes, and this is true any given year, regardless of the season, our schedule or their schedule, that game will always be like our Super Bowl. It’s a big one for us. Playing for the pig, it’s a big deal for us. It’s not something I think anyone on our team or our fans take lightly. I know Iowa fans are excited to get up to our stadium and check it out, and try to buy out our tickets and make that thing, what’d they call it, ‘Kinnick North?’ But I know our fans are going to come out and support us and it’s going to be a battle. I can’t wait to be hoisting that pig up. It’s heavy. I know that. I can’t wait to have it. I’m not going to Joe Namath this thing. Not at all. I just know it’s going to be a great game.

Geez I hate to think what it would have been like in 2008 is they'd taken it lightly. They looked really "up" for that one.

Its heavy? How would he know? Hasn't been there since he has been there has it?

He was on the team in '06 when Minny beat Iowa but he was a freshman and more than likely didnt carry the pig off the field.

I believe Weber should lower his goal to just scoring this year. It's more realistic. I can't believe he even singled out Iowa with the fact that they have been outscored 67-0 in the past two seasons.

The funny thing is that I would put the odds at 5-1 he won't even be starting by then.

Well do you want him to say we're going to get destroyed this year, we might as well not even show up to play.

No, maybe he should say, we have a real good shot at beating Indiana this year and focus on that game. If they asked about Iowa directly, he should have said something like, well, we haven't fared well in that one over the past two years, I hope our fans will still come so we don't have to play in front of 55,000 Hawkeye fans. He could have gone on to say what a "tool" his coach is.

I love it...."Floyd"...the greatest trophy in all of sports. There is nothing like it. And it is ours...All ours! And will remain so through 2010 and 2011!

I also can't wait to see the new trophy, the "Iowa/Nebraska" trophy. It has to be something classic, something truly classic.

The two states should have a contest to see who can come up with the best concept. The winner gets to present the trophy to the winning team after the first game!!! How cool would that be!!! Especially a hawk fan presenting the trophy to the HAWKS!!!

2002 at the Metrodome. Still one of the most surreal experiences of my life as the visiting Hawkeye fans storm the field and tear down the goal posts. Has this ever happened previously or since in major college football? I still love that they tried to clear out the building by feeding a high pitched noise through the speakers. Floyd is an awesome trophy...not like the piece of junk Cy-Hawk trophy.

The ANF Trophy.

Yeah, didn't that partially fall apart last year or the year before. Seems like part of it had to be held on by a player.

A bronze statue of a farmer in work clothes with a hat tipped back on his head after a day of work chewing on a blade of grass leaning on a fencepost....

How would that look...

CAARHawk, I'm digging the ANF Trophy. That would be sweet.

However, if they went with geography, I might rather have the Championship trophy of the Western Conference be the ANF Trophy. Have it be a really nice cup trophy filled with an item of harvest from each western state. Apples, Corn, Cheeries, Grapes, etc. However, you could call it the Harvest Cup and leave ANF to Iowa / Nebby.

Might also be a good idea just to sell the naming rights to the Nebby / Iowa game to John Deere or someone similar and let them come up with the trophy. Probably be worth some serious bank.

I like how he acknowledged the name change of Minny's new stadium, especially so soon. He must read the boards.

Funny how he spins that to mean that IOWA fans really put a premium on this game. It's really a statement on how pathetic his own fans are.

IOWA fans travel well EVERYWHERE. Minnesota just happens to be a close stadium where the home fans don't show up...which ALLOWS Iowa to take the place over.
