When Eric May plays well....

If I had to pick out the plays that I remember most that May has been involved in over the last 10 games, I would have to say the 2 missed dunks in one game that he could have jusdt laid in for points, and watching him try to cover guys away from the ball while letting them get wide open shots in the lane are the things that come up first in my mind. I really hope he can make strides this summer and turn it around, but it just seems he doesn't have the mindset to be a major contributor at this level.

Uh, the missed dunks were alley-oops. What is he supposed to do other than dunk it?

Uh, lay it in for an easy two instead of trying to thunder dunk it in. It appeared he was going for the highlight throwdown (which don't get me wrong, it would have gotten the crowd and team going), but if you are not in position to dunk it but are that close to the rim or above it, just make the easy lay in.

I am five foot six and have caught a lob pass and put it in for two points, it still counts for two if you don't dunk it.

Well I'm pretty sure that the intent of those plays was for him to dunk it. You said it yourself, it gets the crowd going nuts (which is why we do it). Hindsight is 20/20. We don't run that to have him lay it in. We run it to have him throw it down.

They should probably just run plays worrying about actually scoring then if your side of the argument holds any water.

May is great athlete, not a skilled basketball player. He is getting exposed in this system because he doesn't go north and south with the basketball and has a lot of holes in game offensively. I would love to see him forget the 3 and try to get into the lane for the pull up jumper, but he doesn't have good enough handles to do that on his own. He has lost his confidence and is thinking about every move he makes, which is crippling his ability to make decisions.

He is not a big ten starter and IMO will be better coming off the bench to press/ trap and run the floor and play physical D on a 2 or 3. Just too limited offensively to merit all the playing time.
