What's wrong with college wrestling?

Stalling!

Something needs to get taken care of and get taken care of quickly. So many matches today came down to who could stall the longest. Even Ramos was borderline stalling in his win. Surprising that they didn't call him, considering he's a Hawkeye and refs don't have a problem calling Iowa right off the whistle.

Are they going to do something about this or are we going to have to watch it continue to get worse?

I've heard everything from taking away riding time to making them go nuetral if no score within 20 seconds.... The fact is the refs just need to call it. We can all see when they're truely stalling. The refs just have to be quicker with the first warning. They CANNOT wait until the last 30 seconds of the match to give the first warning and then let the clock bail them out without awarding a stall point.

When the wrestler's first step, off the whistle, is backward...that should be a warning. Wrestling is about being aggressive and moving forward. And that ride that Nelson does IS stalling. He never tries to break them down and turn them. He's just hanging on. That needs to get called every match.

It gets hard to watch Delgado and Nelson both holding on and not trying to create points in the top position. I don't think we need to get rid of riding time but maybe only award riding time if there are back points scored.

I think one thing that would improve the sport a lot would be if the riding time point was contigent on exposing the opponents back, even if just for a one count. I.e., if you are just hanging on, you get nothing, but if you are working to turn your man, even if you don't get NF out of it, you get your riding point.

And if you can't turn your guy even for an instant, then you get nothing for your ride.

"Sorry, you should have been better at the top position then. Too bad, bro."
