WHats with the inferiority complex on this board?

I totally agree with this thread. I've followed HawkeyeNation for most of the year and have been mostly pleased by the educated commentary about both the team and the sport in general. But it seems like whiners continue to infiltrate the board, and when I came on after our Orange Bowl win, I think I saw more negative threads complaining about the media than threads lauding our team! Seriously, if you don't like ESPN or X media outlet, move on. They are not the ultimate authority on Iowa Football, and they're busy covering about 50 different sports (and most probably couldn't find Iowa on a map), so why do we expect them to know our team inside and out? Do you really think the players care that much about what the media says? I doubt it. They care if they win, and if they're putting forth their best individual and overall team effort. We continue to win, and this has been one of the best seasons in Iowa football history, so please people, a little more optimism would be fantastic! At least a few more positive threads would be super. I understand that a discussion forum is open to all opinions, and I'm not calling to censor anyone, but maybe at this rate we need to start a separate "I hate the media" forum, so all naysayers can go and post there. I won't be joining them.

You know what works as a great motivator for teams?

Disrespect.

The last thing I want to see is for the Hawks to become the next "it" program. That will breed laziness and complacency.

I think a little bit of that effect is what caused the down period from '05-'07. Kirk made some "fat cat" comments during that time and it took a bunch of exiled players and getting back to basics before he was able to right the ship.

So the next time Iowa gets doubted on a national stage, it plays right into our hands.

So I couldn't care less that most "experts" picked Georgia Tech to win. I actually prefer it that way.

I like how nobody claims to listen to Rome, but there are regular threads complaining about what he said.

I listen to Rome whenever I can, and I have since I was a soph. at Iowa in 2000. Most of these people don't know what they are talking about. The only thing I have ever had an issue with with what Rome has said about the Iowa program is when he once called Ferentz "A dime a dozen", but I have heard him give props to Ferentz on more than one occasion, and he was absolutely raving on Norm Parker yesterday.

Just another aspect of the inferiority complex; projecting your insecurities onto others.

I listen to Rome everyday at work...he's never given props to Ferentz, ever. I have a feeling the only reason he was all over Iowa's jock (other than Kirk's) is because Paul Johnson must've turned him down for an interview as well.

Edit: Other than his anti-Kirk affliction, he's got a pretty good show...The Smack-Off is can't miss radio.
