What would be your reaction if B Ferentz was named OC?

The OC & play calling in general is somewhat like playing chess or any other strategic game. Experience definitely helps but you kind of have to think strategically to begin with. I don't know if Brian is naturally like this. But Kirk certainly does. In my opinion he could probably do no worse than KOK.

People saying he has no experience and could not do the job remind me of when some ex players were mentioned for the BB coach a few years back and people said that it wasnt possible to successfully coach w/o prior experience. I said the right person could because of being around the game their whole life gave them experience.

I guess we are seeing how it's working out over in Ames w/Hoiberg coaching w/o prior experience. The right person can get the job done w/o prior experience. I don't know if Brian is the right person, but Kirk does.

Some of you are hell bent on criticizing every move that KF makes. Who are we to say that he is or isn't ready? I am guessing there are not a whole lot of options out there for a pro style offensive coordinator. If he is the best option, I am all for it. He is rumored to be in running for the OC position for the New England Patriots yet for some of you he is not good enough to run the offensive ship for our beloved Hawkeyes. Give me a break.

New England is a team that values the pass (though that makes sense considering they have one of the best QB's of all time as their QB). They also seem to utilze the run game not as the main aspect of their offense but as secondary indicating that they think the run game is dying in importance. They also go for it on 4th down quite frequently (I think though I've never seen the numbers on it. He may be able to offer something interesting as OC and the more I think about it the more open I may be to it.

Yes, because that's exactly what we need out of a coach - someone who wants to pass the ball 50 times a game and go for it on 4th down. SMH.

We here at Hawkeye Nation are very fortunate to have numerous people who are far more football intelligent than a coach who has 30 years experience, so why wouldn't they question his moves?

Beautiful post bb. Couldn't have said it better.

For the record, I'd be perfectly happy with Brian Ferentz in any role at Iowa, even offensive coordinator. The offense isn't going to drastically change one way or the other no matter who the assistant is, I'm simply looking at it from an inspirational standpoint. Brian Ferentz, at age 28, is someone who could be highly motivational to the current players and could really provide a recruiting boost because of his ability to connect to younger kids. The factors for success are staring Iowa right in the face.
