What will it take to upset Wisconsin?

As we know Iowa and Wisconsin are very similar. The difference will be who ever accomplishes their objective. Both want to stop the run, force the other team to pass. Iowa has good tight ends, Wisconsin has good tight ends. Wisconsin has the edge at WR and in the running game.

Wisconsin has the advantage of having two easy games to work out any problems. However, these games didn't really test Wisconsin. Iowa has had two good games. One was against a very good Iowa State team. Not that Northern Illinois was a slouch. However, New Mexico and Western Kentucky were pre season games at best for Wisconsin. This weekend's game is against a 1-1 BYU. BYU lost to a decent Cal team.

Overall Wisconsin has the statistical edge on Iowa in most categories. Iowa has two major advantages. The game is in Kinnick and Iowa has a dominating defensive line. Iowa's chance at an upset will depend on the defensive line winning the LOS battle. If Iowa dominates the LOS, they will produce more turnovers. A draw or less and Iowa's chances of winning are almost non existent.

This is a pivotal game for both teams. A Wisconsin victory seals up the West division for Wisconsin. If Iowa wants any national recognition they have to win this game. If Iowa loses it's likely another decent but average year for Iowa. 7-8 wins and a bowl game.

If we get in a third and long situation, let Stanley quick kick it. They wont have anyone back to return it. Flip the field position. What I mean by third and long, is like third and 20 yds. to go. If they arent expecting it, it could hit one of their players and we could recover for a first down.

I sort of love that idea.

#3 and #5, I saw a stat where we were 28-1 (no idea if I remembered this correctly, just remember 1 loss and a lot of wins) when rushing over 100 yards.

Turnovers, we can’t stop Taylor with their line so ending drives with turnovers is key.

I agree. Turnovers and taking advantage of short fields. If Iowa can somehow get over the 20 pt. mark I think they can win it.

Taylor has certainly proved capable of coughing it up.

We won in '15 because we turned them over four times, their most costly being the Stave fumble on our 1 yard line.

Iowa probably gave Stave a game ball which he probably promptly dropped.

Play action

If Wisconsin has a bunch of 3rd and 4(s), 2nd and 5(s) it will be a long day for Iowa. The Iowa D has to dictate the game to Hornibrook.

Wisconsin must beat BYU this week. If not, they will be come into Kinnick with their hair on fire.

100% IKM and Smith-Marsette

Shut down Taylor

Yep, I want an undefeated Wisky coming in, but also a lot of self-doubt in the back of their minds. Kinnick at night with the crowd a-rockin’. Sets up nice for the Hawks, especially if our defense can dominate. Our offense really needs to be opportunistic and take advantage of anything the defense gives it!
