What we Learned

1) JVB is the player we thought he was. Players have bad games but the maturity to lead that comeback shows us we just have to be patient with a player that still has only started 5 games.

2) Coker is a workhorse but we need to get Bullock up to speed so he doesn't have to do it all. Our offense is built for a power back but we do need a change of pace. Don't let what Coker did against Missouri cause you to think that he is bad just because he doesn't duplicate it every game.

3) We need to use more 3 WR sets without a FB because it will open up better passing matchups and force the defense to keep at least 4 men out of the box...this in turn will open it up for Coker.

4) KOK is the man who kept the foot on the gas and he is the one that allowed us to thrive when Tate was in his first year and had no RBs. KF is a ground and pound OL coach that when he takes the leash off KOK good things can happen.

5) Just because many teams have switched to the spread doesn't mean we need to. We can switch it up and pass and use more WRs but balance is still the key to Iowa. Yet sometimes we have to lean to the pass or the rush depending on game situation. Today we used the fact that we have 2 NFL type WRs to dominate Pitt late.

6) Yes we can score at will...and it is easier when the Defense gives us the ball back with quick outs so we can develop a rhythm.

7) Micah Hyde is a CB, not a Safety...Bernstine is a playmaker that we need on the field with Hyde.

8) We don't need to be like the Bronco fans that are putting up Tebow billboards just because a game goes badly...In KF we Trust...understand he figures things out. Some want a spread offense because it is the new fad. The I formation with balance & single back with balance are time tested the best offenses from year to year as they can score quickly and control the clock. Notice when Pitt tried to control the clock momentum swung. They didn't know how to do it. We know how to control the clock and speed it up.

Best comeback I have ever seen and enjoy being a Hawk at all times, but even more when some of the emotional haters get proven wrong with their KF, KOK, JVB, Coker, etc. hating.

I am suprised how well hyde has been playing CB. He is definatly proving that he belongs at CB vs saftey?

I think Coker cost himself several extra yards today on missed reads and seemed to cut the ball upfield to quick sometimes.

I think this is false, but someone told me KF had a hand in the offensive play calling late 3rd and 4th. Doesnt sound right to me but wondering if anyone else heard this on posr game.

Thanks gawd I am not coaching this team. Middle of the 3rd quarter I was screaming at the TV to yank Vandy and put in Derby.

I think the biggest fallacy is that Iowa needs a big, power back.
The opposite is true.
They need the quick back to find the cutback & get up field.
Coker is tentative, probably due to the fumbles, gotta get Bullock involved NOW.

Name the best year a RB has had under Ferentz and you might need to rethink the power back comment. Shonn Greene is a power back, he is faster than Coker. Coker is struggling right now with not being decisive enough with his cuts. He was decisive last year but he also didn't have all the pressure in hawkeyenation on him because he was taking over a crappy situation that was left to him. Now a bunch of couch coaches are saying he isn't good enough. He has the ability, remember he is only a sophomore. He does need a speedier back to spell him and mix things up. Greene didn't really need that because he could take it to the house unlike Coker. Yet if you remember Greene did have that in Jewell Hampton.
