What We Learned: Phil Parker, Brian Ferentz Press Conference

So do you think he is destined to be a long time coordinator/assistant?

PParker is making $300,000 a year, maybe $400,000. If he wanted to be a head coach anywhere I think he could make double or triple at a good FCS or non-P% team. But maybe he doesnt want the top position, maybe he loves defense. He sure doesnt owe Iowa as he has given back as an assistant and DC.

If you think the defense if the problem with the Hawks then there's no helping you and I have to wonder if you watch games or just Google the scores afterwards.

Go look up Iowa's defensive stats under Parker and their rankings against Big Ten schools and come back.
I see where this thread has taken a drastic turn and I'd like to weigh in.

About the best thing, IMO, one can say about Iowa's defense is it's better than the offense.

This year's defense gave up way too many big plays. Iowa's defense can't ever get most offenses off the field with any immediacy. This is a prime example of differences between Wisky's dominant and successful defense and Iowa's counter-punching defense(other than the 4-3 compared to the 3-4).

IMO, if KF is agreeable to a midland to poor offense, at least he should require a dominant defense. He doesn't and Iowa is mediocre. I guess KF could demand a higher-powered offense but then Iowa would be just like a BIGX!! team.

From side note to thread material: if Phil Parker follows the philosophy of KF on defense, which he does, how good can Parker be as a defensive coach? Answer:not so good. Maybe he is good but there's no indication of that while he's been coaching at Iowa.
