What wasnt so good Saturday

This is spot on. I watched games all weekend too and we are clearly nowhere near the top 25 teams in the country on the offensive side of the ball. Another poster said that it's always the same complaints with Iowa, and that is so true. We are always saying it's the first game and just give our QB some time to grow while I watch freshman and first year starters at other schools looking polished. Watching the Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia game I couldn't help but thinking we would get destroyed if we played those teams. How many top 25 teams would only score 24 points against Wyoming? I would bet many would double that output. It's a little bit talent gap and a lot of the coaches style.

got there eventually.

The offensive line. The fumbles. Play calling.

The line will improve as the year foes on. And getting Daniels back will make the line MUCH better

The ball was like a greased pig out there. We were dropping the ball after tackles as well.

I think improved line play will make the play calling better. Im not worried about BF yet.

IMO the line screwups can be fixed pretty easily. Having daniels back will mean the world to this line.

Honestly if Iowa doesn't turn the ball over 4 times they probably win by 30+ and none of us are worried or dissecting anything.

You are right and wrong. 2 fewer turn overs and we win by at least 31.
But you are wrong in saying that the board wouldn't dissect anything.

I'm hoping that what I saw in the 2nd half was Iowa keeping some things on Offense close to the vest.
My #1 concern is Stanley's inability to hang onto the ball. Correctable (see Wadley's first few games)
#2 concern is the O-line. I have only watched the game twice, but I didn't see anybody from WY getting de-cleated or pancaked. Also correctable with some time, getting Daniels back and getting rid of some of the normal game-day jitters.
My #1 thing I was thrilled to see Saturday = WE THREW THE DAMN BALL DOWNFIELD! Granted not a lot, but I will take it when I recall the past couple years' worth of 2 yd-out patterns on 3 & long.
#1 thing I'm curious about... are the coaches 100% committed with Stanley or is T. Wiegers going to be in the mix if Stanley keeps fumbling it away??

This game was sooooooooo Iowa. I'm not sure how else to say it. Generally satisfactory.

I duno, fans gripe about play calling because a given play does not yield yards. They call isn't the issue, its the execution far more often than not.

I get what you are saying. BUT, the end around to the TE? Not a great play, IMO.
I want to see more passes to MVB. I would like to see a couple more deep balls.
But I think we were limited due to our poor O line play. And the fact it was a new QB.

Im not griping. I just want to see a couple different things.

Greg Davis is very happy to hear that his play-calling wasn't the problem just the execution.

I was initially dumbfounded by the Fant-around too. But then I thought about it and even though it didn't play out well, it will force LBs to pay attention to Fant when he goes in motion. Perfect for setting up the counter behind him.
Iowa coaches have always been very good at dropping these odd looks or plays in the OOC games that they use to trap Big Ten opponets with in the future. I think this is one of those.

Dropped passes are execution. Missed blocking assignments are execution. Hand offs to no one followed by a fumble are execution.
Clean those up by next week and the offense looks much better.

I'm gonna say commercials. Usually set the dvr and wait an hour to start watching staying off social media. You usually catch up to the game halfway through the 4th without having to sit through the barrage of the same three car/phone/food commercials. First game of the season didn't want to wait and paid for it. To add insult to injury all of the games on seemed to have their commercial breaks synced up.

Wadley is the #1 back. When you run out the clock you give it to your main guy. Not the backup who for all we know could have had issues holding onto the ball in practice.

Except, in this case, our backup rb has 3000 career rushing yards in college; including back-to-back 1300 yard seasons at Nevada. You give that backup a chance to help run out the clock, in my opinion. JB needs carries in our offense. AW needs to stay healthy.

Lol, so not every one on this board is a overly optimistic fan. You summed it up with a fair and unbiased observation. I enjoy everyone's perspective and comments. I find them on occasion as entertaining as the football program itself. We have a historical time period of eighteen years of this specific football programs philosophy to draw from and to make general assessments about future results. Based on that yours are more than fair. We all hope for better as we want to play for another Big Ten title.

I get it, as I too hope at the beginning of every year lightening strikes Kirk and wild offensive hairs grows up his backside. I guess it gives people something to hope for. It's interesting for fans who have the ability to disconnect from their own bias in sports teams, religion, or politics and be able to step back and look in from the outside and make an honest assessment of what is going on. The fans perspective and behavior can be equally interesting as you can't help but notice how seriously some seem to take it. You can almost feel the emotions in the comments they make and how important it seems to them. I think that's great as being a person of conviction is a very good trait to have as a human being. Another good trait to have is the one I previous mentioned. Step back and try to take an honest assessment of the last eighteen years and temper expectations based on the reality of what history gives you. I enjoy following my favorite teams every year in so much I generally know what to expect from them but I am always hoping for the best.

I tend to HOPE for the best (remember I predicted a 9-3 season) however if I were a betting man and had to put down a large a mount of money based on history and also knowing humans are creatures of habit and Kirk is like a broken record, I would say that 7-5 and a bowl loss are a pretty safe bet. Having said that I have to admit that this team has tremendous potential and a possible high upside. If the defense is for real and can be as effective the rest of the season as they were this past Saturday they this could be a very special, season. There will be no team they won't be able to contend against as the defense will keep us in the games. I also loved Stanley's touch and placement of the ball when given time In the pocket to survey the field. If our pass protection can improve and hold up he should be able to dissect our opponents and be extremely affective. At the same time we all know that old saying "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts what a wonderful world this would be."

I am hoping for the best but would not be shocked with the historical average.

lol . . . of all the posters on this board, you want honestly least of all hypocrite.

It was stupid for Wadley to be in the game at that point. I'm not sure how anyone could argue that point. Butler, and Young should have been getting carries at that point.

I'm sure ball security was of interest. You can't just throw Young in there the last two minutes all cold and hope he hangs on to the ball. Butler would have been alright, though.
