what record would you take?

I think any season with 9 or more wins is a big success at Iowa, and yes Hawks have a chance for more but lets beat EIU first then worry about week 2 and so on the season is so long with injuries and different factors that come into play. Lets see how the Hawks play as the front runner something under Ferentz we have not done well.

+1

If there's one area we sorta, kinda re-load, it's the OL. We'll be fine. Injuries, though, will kill us anywhere else.

People say this but you need to remember that the OL last year struggled...and we are losing the best pieces (except Reiff) off that o line. KF is great with the line but it isnt always really good

I especially like it when I read Iowa can't possibly go undefeated 13-0 or whatever. I saw a post on another thread about how you've never done it, so why are you thinking this year would be any different.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, until Northwestern benefitted from the Stanzi injury, we had won 13 in a row and and had the second longest winning streak in the nation behind Florida.

So it's not possible...please, with the schedule...it's certainly possible. Likely, no, but very possible.

I like fully investing my emotions in the Hawkeyes. Last year when we lost to Northwestern, I was devastated. However, if we would have gone undefeated, my joy would have been equally overwhelming, and I was extremely happy about the Orange Bowl victory.

So, I will be disappointed if we don't go undefeated this year, but that doesn't mean I would not be psyched about another 11-2 season with a BCS bowl victory. However, I would probably not be happy with anything less with the players we have. Fans should expect success from their teams.

Yes, KF is great at developing Offensive Lines. But at the same time, he's not a miracle worker. People seem to have forgotten that we've had several underwhelming lines at Iowa under Ferentz's tenure(not necessarily his fault, injuries and depth are more of the problem). Also, it seems like it always takes about half the season for the line to click. There are a lot of tough games before that point where we could get beat.

Also, although the home schedule appears beneficial this year, it's not like we have been world beaters at Kinnick lately. UNI, Arkansas St., Northwestern were not exactly great games at home. And there are plenty more examples.

Considering all of this, I see 9-3 as a realistic record. And would be thrilled with it.

A Rose bowl trip is what I would really like. Our defense will be one of the best in the country, which allows us to be in every game. Our offensive line is a great concern to me...however, in Kirk I will trust on this one. If we can get by Arizona, which I think will be extremely tough, then I believe double digit wins will be a given. I just think this group is capable of running the table with a break here or there. My gut tells me something special is brewing...and if SETH comes and shares in the Canadian nector with me then a national championship is definitely within reach.

holy crap! Texas called and they'd like their expectations back.

going into it assuming that 11 wins are guaranteed is setting yourself up for disappointment. maybe they do win that many, but you know what grandma always said, "don't count your chickens before they've hatched"!

This

winning 11 games is extremely tough....no matter what school it is

I bet I'll be more thrilled with an undefeated season than you, and more disappointed with a 9-3 season than you... and that's the way I want it. And when we win the national championship next season, I will be walking around with my d*ck hanging out for all to see.

Ummmm.....I don't know if I want us to win the NC now....

I would be extremely disappointed with a 9-3 season considering Iowa will most likely be favored in 11 games this year. I would be willing to settle for 11-1.

I agree. It's one thing to maybe predict 11 wins. But the topic of this thread is "what record would you take". Personally, I took that to mean what is the minimum amount of wins that would make you happy. People who are saying 11, or even 10 wins for that matter, are unrealistic in their expectations. I'm not saying it's not possible, because it certaintly is. But that shouldn't be expected as a "nothing less" scenario.

We kind of saw this mentality after our three year Top 10 run. I think it's a shame if that mentality is returning.

I would be satisfied with a 9-4 record, not happy, but not real disappointed. Anything better than that is just gravy. And I agree that people expecting no less than 10-11 wins need to tone it down a bit.

Anything less than 9 wins will be upsetting. 9 wins would be disappointing but acceptable. 10-11 wins will be good. More than that great. But if I was presented with the choice I would have to say the only record I would take without a second thought would be 12-1 with a Rose Bowl victory. I think we have a shot at that so anything less and I could be selling myself short.

Steve...not only will I be at most Iowa games, I'm moving to IC in Aug, AND, I'll be bringing that new Black Label Crown (90 proof) to the games this year.

Not bad, but you are selling yourself short anyway. 13-0 is reasonable, no matter what people here say. Anything less and I will be disappointed. This team can do it, and I really hope that they do. No loss will be acceptable. I will be devastated if we lose a game. Sorry bout it.

8-4 would be acceptable in my book. We have a very tough schedule even though many of our tougher games are at home.

If I had to predict, I think we'll go 10-2 and end up in Orange Bowl again against North Carolina. We lose to Ohio State and Michigan.

i see the only loss being ohio state

this season is big for kf and if he can keep up with bcs bowl bids. if we go to another bcs watch out for 5 star recruits specially with all the eyes on big ten in 2011
