What if...

...we tipped the PSU pass just enough.
Stanley doesn't fumble at the 1 against MSU
We make the FG vs. NW...

...and are ranked 5th.
This is why I don't agree with Jon's assessment that because most of us picked the Hawks to finish 6-6 / 7-5 we shouldn't be upset about our result this season. We are this close to being undefeated and all of us can look to different reasons, turnovers, play calling, execution, etc. but to say I'm okay with it because I picked them to go 6-6 is a weird take.

And that's the thing with football. In most games, you can point to 2-3 plays/situations that could have changed a win to a loss, a close game to a blowout, a blowout to a close game. Whether Iowa was 7-0 or 4-3 or something else, what we've seen is a team that is pretty good on defense and has issues on offense. A lot of those issues come from the fact that we are asking a lot of Fr/So to play significant roles on offense. Tr So QB, #2 and #3 RB are FR, two Fr. WR's in our top 4, two So TE's, two Fr. Tackles. Even the best of programs in the country would have a tough time being good or consistent on offense depending on that many Fr/So to play so many important roles.

Only 1 of those 3 plays would clearly have tipped the game.

PSU came at the end, so yeah "what if". The others still had plenty of time for other events to change. Unlikely NW kills the last 1:30 if down 3.

What if ISU doesn't drop an easy TD in OT? Hawks 3-4?

And, 7-0 Iowa likely is not #5 anyway. But, if they were, KF would probably be on his way to another extension. Anybody want that?

Since it's just a hypothetical - So they go 12-0 or 11-1? Then, why not? Two very successful seasons in 3 years; this one with a bunch of first year starters in the lineup. Of course.

That is part of the conundrum, we supposedly suck so bad we need someone to show us back to the locker room but yet that close to being undefeated and Kirk is a genius!

Not an extension, just on the way to Brian. Brian is the extension.

If we were 7-0, I'd give him all the extensions he wants. He's old. He won't coach to the end of any extension he's given. 7-0, having beaten PSU puts Iowa in the top 10. I just said 5 because that would put them at the bottom of the unbeatens.
