What if Norm Parker and Brandon Wegher never return?

Not to be hated for even mentioning this, but what if we don't see Norm back this year, or for that matter, ever again. Forced to retire due to health.
My dad had his foot amputated due to diabetes and it took a LONG time for him to be able to do much of anything. Some people make it sound like Norm's getting his wisdom tooth removed.
We may never see Norm Parker in the capacity we are used to. Kind of like Brandon Wehger. When do we start saying if, and not when.

Hopefully his amputation goes smoothly(if there is such a thing).Good Luck and prayers go out to Norm Parker and his family.

Next man in.

Exactly. Wegher was great last year, but he's only one player. It would be nice if he made it back, be we've moved on. As Bo Schembechler said, no man is bigger than the team.

As for NORM. He'll be back in some form, though it may not be on the sideline. And if he retires after this year, we've got some solid position coaches who have worked under him. I'm confident our D will continue to be great, though we'll all certainly miss Norm when he decides to retire.

ICHawk is 100% correct, you move on. We have been extraordinarily fortunate to have the continuity in the coaching staff that we have. Losing a coach was bound to happen at some time. It is unfortunate that is might come about because of health problems in Norm's case, and my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Then we promote someone else from within to coordinate the D and someone else gets a look at RB.

EDIT: BUT, after just listening to KFz's comments on Norm it sounds like he's far from done. Norm will be back unless something unforseen happens.

Next man in.

Coach Parker will himself probably prefer a slower transition, with him handling less and less duties while another defensive staff member starts doing more (Phil Parker, perhaps?). But if a sudden change does happen, Iowa's coaches have been with the program long enough that they know the system, and a transition from Norm to Phil, or somebody else will not be a big issue.

As for Wegher, yeah it sucks we don't have him this year, but he's just one player. We still have a great QB in Stanzi, and a promising backup in Vandenberg. We have several competent receivers in DJK, McNutt, Sandeman, Davis, Chaney, etc. We have a strong TE in Reisner, and promising backup in CJ. Our OL is young and learning. And while Robinson is the last man standing right now, Coker and Rogers are not terrible by any definition of the word.

And then there's the defense. While there are certain positions where I'm concerned about depth, for the most part, we look to be pretty strong there too.

College football, and perhaps the game of football, is really about the ability for a team to adhere to the policy "Next Man In". And Iowa does this really well.

I love norm as much as anyone else, but i really think he should take time off to heal up and get his health under control.

Norm may live for the game, but still, the game will miss Norm far more than Norm will miss the game.

As for Wegher? He doesn't care enough about the game, at 19 or 20 years of age, to "miss" it yet. And with the thing(s) in his personal life, it might be understandable to some degree.

But to put both into the topic is offensive. Norm means far more the team, the university, and the game of college football than Brandon Wegher EVER will. Norm WANTS to be with the team, but has no choice. Brandon Wegher chooses NOT to be with the team.

Everyone is saying Norm will be fine, but how do you know? Amputating a foot is severe. When people say "He'll be fine" or "He'll be back", this says nothing. Even his doctor doesn't know right now. I'm not so sure we'll ever see him in the same coaching capacity as before. I'm surprised conservative KF even mentioned his opinion that Norm will be back soon. KF is a great man, but he is not a medical doctor.

I predict the exact opposite will happen, ie Norm will come back next week and bring BW to play middle LB and spy on Robinson.

diabetes never gets better..It always gets worse.

THat said things can be stabilized however, I doubt he will be getting better. Just slow the progress.

You get on here and start talking negative about Norm and giving worst case scenerio. Are you a troll trying to start stuff or just a really negative person? As for what KF has said and not said has all been approved by Norm. When there was nothing to be said that was because Norm didnt want people talking about him and taking away from the team. Like I said you are either trying to start stuff or you have a very negative attitude. Dont say in one sentence that you dont believe KF and then in the next say hes a great man. After all your not a doctor. Ill let you get back to your worry.

Hey Einstein,
When you type your thoughts and then hit "spellcheck", do you hear banjos playing?
