What do we want in last recruits

Lazard automatically gives them a recruiting class ranked in the top 20. Duh. Think wide receiver skills like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss with the speed of Usain Bolt and the strength of Gronkowski. It's automatically worth 4 wins just having him on the team.

It seems like Lazard is taking on Chuck Norris type qualities. At least in Cyclone country.

Ross P will be back at Iowa when Saban flips to Texas, although it would be funny if Wallace commits so see if Iowa would take both or not.
I'd go with yes

His size? The guy weighs 240, I'd sure hope he has some speed considering he's playing on the d-line. At that size he couldn't be an every down d-end but if his speed holds up jumping to D-1 then he could be an important 3rd down player for Iowa.

At 240 he is big enough to be an every down DE. Michigan State's DE this year are --

SHILIQUE CALHOUN (6-4, 250, So.) -- Finalist for DE of the Year
MARCUS RUSH (6-2, 245, Jr.)

So if you don't have to be 270 or 280 to play every down on the top ranked defense in college football, why would you need to at Iowa?

LeRoy Smith.

Alabama is ridiculous. They are going hard after Wallace with 6 OL already verballed.

I hope Iowa gets Wallace over Allabama and Saban after they got Ross P to switch.

If they could get Wallace, Wiegers, Jennings, and Young that would be a great finish to the class.

How many commits are they on track for to oversign this year?

Last year Bama took home the Oversigning Cup....they had 14 schollys to give and they signed 26 recruits.

So, I presume they will once again be in the hunt for the Cup.

Size shouldn't be a concern for Trevon Young, IMHO. Jason Taylor was a DE & OLB for the Dolphins and played at 244 pounds and was 6'6". If Trevon was half the player of JT, would you take him?

At the very least he could compete for the 3rd down rush DE we have been needing these past few years.

What a joke. The most confusing thing about that though is, why in the hell would a kid commit to a school knowing full well that there may not even be a scholarship for him? Oh yeah, some kids aren't the brightest. That's it.

no one thinks it will be me without a chair when the music stops playing. these guys are all (mostly) highly rated players - I'm guessing they don't have any confidence issues. Piersbacher is no dummy, i'd bet.

I'd love to see two DEs and a juco db along with a WR and one surprise assuming we have 4-5 picks to give.
What are you hoping for

DE - Henrick, Trevon
db - juco McDaniel
wr - Jennings (the kid from Rutgers)

one ne big surprise - 4* db maybe outta no where.

mcDaniel committed to kstate today. Jennings is visiting Arkansas. Crap. We haven't had much action lately.

From what I have seen we are still active in recruiting

JuCo DE's Hendrick and Young
OL- Wallace
LB- Elijah Lee (K-State commit)
WR- Jennings

I have no idea if we are still recruiting Wiegers, and have no idea if Wiegers is still interested in Iowa after the Beneventi commitment. I assume if we strike out on most of the above guys, we will have some sort of fallback recruits in place. The staff appears to be focusing on only a core group of '14 recruits at this time, as we are hearing much more news about 2015 recruiting at this point

Edit: The recruitment of Hendrick appears in question now. Howe just published an article that says he received some "bad news" from the NCAA.

I doubt the Beneventi commitment is really that off-putting to Wiegers. Everything I've seen says he'll make a decision between Iowa and Penn in the next week or so.

Sad thing about Brian Wallace is that he is strongly considering Alabama. They may have like 8 or 9 OL recruits by the end of this whole deal.

I think in most cases the newly signed kids make the team. They often sign a couple borderline academic types that don't make the admittance standards, but mostly they cut upper classmen that they can't see making a starting/serious contributor role. More telling for me would be to see how many seniors teams like Alabama, Auburn, or Tennessee have on their roster, and what portion don't start or get a lot of minutes in each game. I bet it's not many.

Trevon Young has committed to Louisville. Damn. If we strike out on Young and Hendrick that is going to sting.

......and Hendrick did not qualify, Jennings is still looking at other programs, Lee isn't going anywhere, and pulling Wallace from the hands of the power programs would be a long shot.

8-4 isn't doing too much to influence the 2014 remaining noteworthy prospects. Some staffs just have some better gunslingers.
