What do we want in last recruits

I'd love to see two DEs and a juco db along with a WR and one surprise assuming we have 4-5 picks to give.
What are you hoping for

DE - Henrick, Trevon
db - juco McDaniel
wr - Jennings (the kid from Rutgers)

one ne big surprise - 4* db maybe outta no where.

I didn't list Wallace as I think he slips away. I also don't think RP will entertain flipping back. We may lose one late too based on experience.

I'm feeling it'll look like this:

1x JUCO DE (Either Treyvon Young or Torey Hendrick - feel like we are hedging here)
1x WR (Jennings)
1x QB (Wiegers - This Seems Very Likely)
1x OL (Wallace, Okorafor, or -pipedream- Pierschbacher)

With a 5th potential spot or one of those not happening (likely WR) - I'd imagine we get a DB like Sanders or the JUCO

With Sherff coming back AND next year's class at OL seeming very ripe for Iowa (Newborg, Paulsen Twins, and Meeker - all standout prospects and all leaning Iowa heavily early), OL might not be the most pressing need. But you'd like to see another 3 come in for the 3 that are graduating (Van Sloten, Boffeli, MacMillan)

All the WR commits last year - slots were 'borrowed' from the OL needs, so OL will be more heavy this year accordingly.

That's a good point I wasn't quite aware of.

That said, the staff seems to have things "settled" much better heading into the holidays this year.

Less surprises (again, unless we lose kids verbals) and fallbacks at the last minute with the seeming "Hedging" they seem to be doing with some of our last targets.

Are we in on any Juco LBs to soften the blow of loosing Hitchens, Morris, and Kirksey? That position scares the hell out of me!!

Depth certainly is a bit scary at the LB position.

Would it be accurate to say: "It's better to have a strong veteran -DLine and a young LB core rely on it as they learn vs. a strong veteran LB core and a young DLine core rely on it as they learn" ???

That seems to be the conventional wisdom, but if we're going to have the big year a lot of people are predicting we're going to need strong LB play. Hopefully Alston is ready to go, and Perry has flashed on special teams. Some are predicting Spearman is the third LB, but wasn't he used as a DE this year? I hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem like we've recruited this position very well recently.

yes. As aggravating as it was in 2010 watching an inexperienced linebacking corps give up third down conversions late in the game, it was a lot better than watching offenses run over Iowa in 2005 with an inexperienced d-line.

Would love to land Young (again). Hopefully he understands why we pulled his offer, and doesn't hold any hard feelings for that. Come to Iowa Trevon!!

Not listed in his Top 3 on sites, FWIW.

I'd imagine it's a courtesy visit.

Whatever Cyclone fans are saying.. I'm sure it's funny. Not even in a kid's Top 3, just offered and all aside.. A 1-11 Purdue just beat them out for a 2 star DT. Hard to find the allure in Iowa State, recruiting-wise.

The allure? How about those riveting post-game victory speeches by the head coach that come 3-4 times a year. There's your allure.

This one is my favorite-

LOL! cytown is one of our own just trolling the **** out of them, right?

all joking aside, the video of his play posted on that cyclone site is pretty impressive. sure, it's JUCO level, but they're not all a bunch of stiffs in JUCO. he's got some good speed to go with his size.

His size? The guy weighs 240, I'd sure hope he has some speed considering he's playing on the d-line. At that size he couldn't be an every down d-end but if his speed holds up jumping to D-1 then he could be an important 3rd down player for Iowa.

Aren't they still claiming their recruiting class is far and away better than Iowa's??

Granted, Iowa's isn't great. But I'm just surprised how 1 WR and 1 RB/Dual QB that has solid skills (though if you listen to them, it's the second coming) = getting ahead in their confernece..

It'll be interesting to see them spin the 2015 Classes and how ISU's is superior..

I'm not sure how finally offering Trevon Young = down to ISU and Louisville...

Lazard automatically gives them a recruiting class ranked in the top 20. Duh. Think wide receiver skills like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss with the speed of Usain Bolt and the strength of Gronkowski. It's automatically worth 4 wins just having him on the team.
