What changes next season so we are in the tourney?

Glass half empty or full after year 3? More wins this year? Yes, but against a really soft non-conference schedule and against the bottom feeders of the big ten who were missing their best players. I see Iowa and Purdue in similar positions, as both have some nice young players (Woodbury, Gesell) and (Hammonds, Johnson), but both are seriously deficient in the area of perimeter shooting. Both McCaffrey and Painter have acknowledged "scoring" as a an area for improvement and I think it will be between Iowa and Purdue for the final tourney spot next season, as neither has enough talent to compete with the upper tier of the conference. For Iowa, I contend that someone needs to leave to open up a spot for a juco player and that 2 of 3 incoming players need to take significant PT away from some returning players who have underwhelmed thus far. Without more scorers on the floor, we will be watching the NIT selection show again next year IMO>

jok and uthoff will provide some help on the offensive end. our players will be a year older, stronger, and smarter. and i'm guessing fran will make the OOC schedule tougher than this years.

iowa will make the NCAA tourney next year

Expectations will be to make the NCAA and probably finish 4th or better in the BIG. Seems about right given the progression the last 3 years.

Go Hawks.

Some major changes:

Gesell, Woodbury, Clemmons no longer freshman. Hopefully add 10-15 lbs for Woody.
Oglesby literally can't shoot worse than this year, has to get better right?
Marble and Basabe senior urgency, fewer lapses.
Olaseni makes his beast mode more consistent, blocks 7000 shots next year.
Add Uthoff and Jok. Can't hurt.

Indiana loses Hulls & Watford, probably Zeller and Oladipo too.
OSU might lose Thomas (at times their only offense this year)
Michigan will probably lose Burke and Hardaway, maybe Robinson.
Wisky loses Evans, Bruzowits, Berggren
MSU loses ThugNix, and maybe Appling
Illinois loses Paul.

Consider me extremely optimistic about next year.

Anybody that has watched the games this year and comes away thinking Iowa does not have the talent to compete with the top half of the Big Ten does not have a clue. Iowa has proved over and over this season they have the talent to compete with anybody.

I think even TedNugent himself would be ashamed of this thread. Then he would shoot something.

Jok, Uthoff, Gesell, Marble: There's your perimeter scoring
Basabe, Woodbury, Oleseni: Interior defense, rebounding, scoring

We will be a force next year.

Improvement has been shown in each of the 3 years Fran has been here. Jok and Uthoff coming in next year. Fran's a good recruiter. The underclassmen that have "underwhelmed" thus far have another yet in the weight room and playing. We nearly beat some of the big boys of the conference this year (and got wins by other conference teams that are dancing).
Sorry, Uncle Ted, I don't share the same bleak outlook as you. I think we push into the upper teir of the conference.

SS, You lost....what's up? Whar's Iowa's mention?

Y! SPORTS

I knew you weren't a person of you word aside from being a jerk.

Oddly, although shooting improvement is a must for the Hawks, it's consistency in the post that I see as the key to next season. If Woody and Gabe together average 30+ minutes, IA will be dancing next year. Of that, I am very confident.

Unbiased here. Heard Iowa mentioned more as a bubble team than not. Also selection committee folks literally stated they were part of the last 5-6 in discussion. Fwiw.

#3 NIT seeds aren't bubble teams. Iowa was the lowest RPI of the "bubblers". A bubble team implies consideration given. None was given.

6 seed in the NIT last year, 6 seed in the BTT this year, 6 seed in the NCAA next year (actually they were a 7 in the NIT last year, but that's beside the point). Iowa returns about 90% of this year's production, which got it into the top half of the conference and onto the bubble. Everyone else but Penn State returns a significantly lower percentage.

I'm actually not worried about our perimeter shooting next season. I've been following Gesell's closest player comps on KenPom all season and he has been in some good company. Demetri McCamey and Shane Larkin have both been included in his top five most of the season, both took big steps forward as scorers in their sophomore years. Marble's three point shooting improved a lot from last year, (he shot a lower percentage, but last year he was a very low volume shooter who made 1/3 of his season total 3's in one game, greatly skewing his stats), I look for it to improve even more next season.

Jok will probably be inconsistent next year, but hey he can't be worse than JO. I think Uthoff will greatly help on offense. This is a guy who was a top 150 recruit, who's high school stats compare favorably to Harrison Barnes (that's for you Nuge) who has spent the last two years practicing and lifting with two B10 programs. I think he will have a huge impact next year.

What's missing from your breakdown? How about 1 or 2 players that can break down their defender and get to the basket? Maybe Marble? Maybe Gesell?

Iowa will improve enough to make the tourney. But without a consistent slasher, Iowa will be good but not a force.

Completely different committees, just about everyone has stated Iowa was one of the last 5 out. You are just a liar and looking for any excuse to not follow through with your bet.

"does not have a clue" remember who started the thread.

ILHawk, what is your evidence that we were not considered? What evidence do you have to counter a quote from committee chairman Bobinsky saying Iowa was one of those 9 or 10 considered for the last 4 spots? The NIT seeding is not done by the NCAA selection committee, so that argument isn't doing you any favors.
