What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB season?

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

Huh?

Lick has been gone for 3 years and this team hasnt played his style of ball since.

That "Lick" comment was directed toward the football team and its boring style of play last season with the 1-3 yard quick passes. It made watching the football team quite difficult last season.

It reminded me of watching Lick's BB teams from a few years ago, so much that I even referred to the football coach as "Lick".

Eventually. Maybe. Once it gets a coach with a game plan from the modern era.

imo, a little too much is made of this. What is "modern era". I would argue many of the best teams run conservative, ball control offenses, run game to set up pass, rely on good to great defense....etc.

The difference is there has been a lack of depth and talent to make this work the last couple years.

I can't defend the clock management though....gotta improve.

if by "modern era", you mean spread offense....I just don't guy it. But that's just my opinion.

6-7 wins in '13 - i'll be happy with that
7-8 wins in '14 - i'll be happy with that
7-9 wins as a general rule - generally happy with that.

Basketball for sure. The style of Iowa football is worn out and boring. We may have some new assistants but we all know who's calling the shots that much hasn't changed.

Not looking forward to football at all. I have a sinking feeling that this is going to be the year that KF bookends his 1999 Big Ten 0fer. @Nebraska, @OSU, @Purdue and @Minnesota with home games against Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Northwestern is a recipe for 0-8. That'll give him 14 straight losses in the Big 10 which would actually surpass his 13 straight B1G losses from '99-'00.

When you can tailgate in 50 degree weather all day long drinking beers and enjoying good company at a basketball game maybe my opinion will change. Until then, football rules the day.
Yeah, well it's all fun and games. Eventually, though, the fb game will start.

I am looking forward to discussing the basketball team during the football games this fall. I also look forward to discussing the next Hawkeye football coach during the football games this fall.

Football because I love Hawkeye football, basketball because we are going to be very good.

Football. The overall quality of the sport is so much higher than college basketball. I watch CFB games all day Saturday. There are only a handful of CBB games I watch outside of Iowa or the B10. Now if it were still the 1980s and early 90s when guys to go to the NBA right away, my tune might be different. CBB would be awesome.

I will say that this Lick style of play that Iowa employed last year? made it a lot tougher to watch.

I think the last sentence in your post proves why you're looking forward to fball more than ball which is cool. But you clearly dont follow the bball team. You should watch the Hawks tonight for the first time in 3 years..they're in the NIT vs Virginia and theyre actually fun to watch..

There's no better example of the offensive ineptitude...than the pathetic clock management. The only way it will improve...is if he allows somebody else to manage the game on the sidelines.

We can debate the terminology conservative...unimaginative...whatever. But hiring Greg Davis is yet another example that he doesn't "get" offense. What a train wreck.

He's a 7-5 coach at Iowa. (.500 over the last 3 seasons, and he's the dean of Big Ten coaches. He should have a steamroller in place). He's hit his peak...and is on the down side.

Just thinking back about how I felt every Saturday watching my favorite team stink it up with the worst offensive schemes I've ever seen and a defense that, when the chips were down, would disappear, is not a feeling I am looking forward to experiencing any time soon.

Besides, my first love is Iowa Basketball. I even watched during the Lickliter era (hoping for an occasional miracle). Coach McCaffery has been a godsend in my estimation and I am looking forward to next season with incredible anticipation.
