What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB season?

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

Whaa? Basketball..I am wafting my fart towards you..

When you can tailgate in 50 degree weather all day long drinking beers and enjoying good company at a basketball game maybe my opinion will change. Until then, football rules the day.

Well yeah when ya put it like that. I was talking more team not atmosphere. Either way I am looking forward to football, just wish things were looking more positive.

If I didn't have season tickets to football I would say ball easily

You do not need football tickets to tailgate. Of course, the university & city have done their best to kill the gameday. Which they have forgotten is a huge part of football. Period. Before Hayden, it was tailgating and the band. There was no football. was there??

I can't believe more people aren't looking forward to the Football season. My god it's not like everyone blew us out and physically abused us. Penn State and Michigan kind of did, but we could have won every other game we played and should have beaten ISU, Central Michigan, Purdue, and Indiana. That's the difference between 4-8 and 8-4. Hell, I'll even throw the Nebraska game in there. We were in those games and had chances to win. Are you all saying those games couldn't just as easily gone our way as opposed to the way they went. With a young team, and crappy offense, and critical injuries...we were a few plays in several games from going 9-3 or 8-4.

Now, we have a great nucleus of players back, and our coordinators are now in the second years and have added some nice hires to their staffs. Granted the schedule was easier last year...but we will be much better just based on what is returning. Can our QB play actually go down? I don't think so. It's not as bad as some of the negative nellies will tell you it is. I'm optimistic we get back on track.

That right there is the entire problem. That games against those types of teams are even in question, particularly in Kinnick, much the less the fact that they were even losses, says it all about where this program is, and how far the program has fallen since the days in the early to mid 2000's when Iowa would mop the field with teams like Central Michigan and Purdue.

"Should have beaten" *might* fly against good teams, but if we're hanging our hats on the fact that we "should have beaten" crappy teams, then we're really reaching.

All I can say is that I hope the Hawks improve alot this year.

THIS. Not only is Iowa losing those game, there is no discrepancy in talent when Iowa plays those teams. Its not like Iowa is being upset by inferior talent. The football program is a ******* trainwreck. Give me hoops.

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

It's late March. I know a lot of people out there want to cast aside the football team already but I for one will not. Football is one of the things I look forward to most in a given year and I'm not willing to write them off before all the snow is even melted off the ground.

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

Now this is funny ^^^^

But I am looking forward to FB. I want to see improvement (hehe), I want to see at least 6 wins(lol), I want to see a bowl game(LMAO). I want to see the players succeed and I hope it is exciting(BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA).

Cmon, turn around a few close loses and we will be fine.

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

My heart's always belonged to the basketball team.

That said, I'm pumped for football, and I can't wait for this year's squad to outperform the sorry predictions of all these fair-weather phonies.

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

Iowa is on the verge of becoming a basketball school, so I'm looking forward more to the basketball season.

The question I have is who is more responsible for the transformation from football school to basketball, Kirk or Fran?

My god. The football program is going to be just fine.

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

I'm genuinely curious as to what makes you think this?

We're young and inexperienced, but we have talent everywhere. I think Beathard and Sokol could be players. I think there's a lot of strong youth on the d-line and the defensive secondary, and I think that our young receivers - especially Powell, Smith and Hillyer - have the ability to complement Martin-Manley and Cotton. We're deep at running back, too. This team is not without talent. Just unproven talent.

I look at this team and see 7 wins.

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

Football. The overall quality of the sport is so much higher than college basketball. I watch CFB games all day Saturday. There are only a handful of CBB games I watch outside of Iowa or the B10. Now if it were still the 1980s and early 90s when guys to go to the NBA right away, my tune might be different. CBB would be awesome.

I will say that this Lick style of play that Iowa employed last year made it a lot tougher to watch.

Huh?

Lick has been gone for 3 years and this team hasnt played his style of ball since.

Yep. That having been said, we better have a preliminary coaching search under way. KFz's support is slipping away. As it should be.

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

The answer for me has been basketball for the last 30 years...but it was close to 50-50 during Lick's last 2 years.

The 1997 team had a TON of talent but was coached by a man who who used a play book from the early 80s. How did that season turn out? Not good, and the writing on the wall for Hayden. Sounds similar to the situation we are in now.

Peter Jok!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a feeling about this kid.

Re: What are you more looking forward to? This year's FB season or next year's BB sea

Basketball. It seems to be on the upswing, Fran is a passionate coach, the team plays exciting ball and the future looks bright.

I have to admit I am looking forward to football to see what changes, if any, occur. Kirk should be given credit for shaking up his staff. Let's see if he allows them to "do their thing". But, all the staff shakeup in the world won't do any good if the head man clings to a plodding, conservative style.
