Wetjen killing it

Hmmmm. I like KW a lot. He is a great talent and glad we got him. But generational?

Let me poke a hole in that this way: would you rather have Wetjen or DeJean returning punts? Even if that is a close call to you (its not to me, I'd take DeJean every day and twice on Sunday), it sort of erodes the generational thing when we had someone as good or better 3 years ago.
Um, Dejean isn't here anymore, so your question is non-sensical.

You said that Wetjen is "generational." That means he is like a once in a generation talent, at least at Iowa. People like Caitlyn Clark fit that description. Maybe Luka Garza. Lindy was a generational center for Iowa.

I assume you meant that KW is a generational return guy, and my point is that we had a guy three years ago that IMHO was a better punt returner. So, it kind of undermines your descriptor. That's all I am saying.

Yes, a generational return guy. Maybe not the level of generational but most get my point by meaning a very special player playing a very specialized position. Yes, CC is a generational player in the sport. Not sure I would say Luka Garza is. He may have been for Iowa's program but not in men's b-ball in nationwide or worldwide.

Less than 5 yards deep, yes. Bring it out. 5-10 yards. Ehhhhh. You risk getting snagged at the 15 yard line and/or drawing a penalty that can put the offense in a pickle.

The 25 is a fine starting point. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.
Yeah and the hang time on the kick matters. The good returners get a feel for that too. Having an aggressive returner that's occasionally going to get you starting field position inside the 20/15 occasionally due to it is almost a roll of the dice you live with. And KF seems to have been good with it. Which seems out of character. I'd be curious what the staffs 'policy' kinda is on it. I bet that 4-5 yards deep is the line in the sand it's tough to justify letting him go catching it deeper then that.

Same for punts that long return he had was on one he and every returner shouldn't have had any business returning it. Over the shoulder at the 5 or so... Huge no-no. Maybe that's why he was able to return it too cause the return team relaxed. You should plant your feet at the 10 and anything behind you let go. He won out on the risk reward that time but the ISU game showed why you don't.
