anyone else?

slow day

Weird, this looks like the same team we have this year.

no offense to our two recruits, but they are not gamechangers. so the chances of us winning more than maybe 12-13 games are highly unlikely.

actually, in the last 10 meetings between NW and Iowa the series is square at 5-5.

Iowa had only lost 4 times to NW from 1985-2000. Since the year 2000, Iowa leads by just a 9-7 margin.

So, in my lifetime, the recent history has shown NW has not been one of Iowa's favorite opponents like they were in my childhood and college years.

You can go by KenPom, or whatever media source you want.

NW was 11-4 coming into the game, Iowa was 7-9.
NW had won 2 BT games, Iowa had won zero.

Sorry, but I held out little hope of Iowa winning after Crawford and Thompson put the Cats up 18-6.

the only thing good about Carver last night was the ice cream.

NW also lost to Purdue and Illinois, just like Iowa. Of the 3 BT teams Iowa played before NW, which of the teams from the bottom half of the league would beat them? Very few. Purdue, Ohio State, and Illinois are tough. Very tough.

Once NW hit that 4th 3 pointer in 4 consecutive possessions, I knew it was over too. It was a pitiful game. Ugly, no energy, weak effort vs. NW.

I haven't had any ice cream yet this year inside Carver. That probably explains why Iowa is doing so poorly.

Well, Jon was -5 in football so you still have him beat.:D

the difference between Jon being -5 and being correct is much different than being -3 right now for the hoops team. About anyone could be within 3 games right now. Most everyone would have been at least -3 on the Iowa FB team this year

the FB team at least had hopes of winning every game. All 5 of Iowa's FB losses were against bowl teams.

the BB team will be lucky to win more than 1 or 2 more....and it lost to that powerhouse South Dakota State squad

but spin it however you want. :)

There are almost 3 times as many basketball games than football games, so wouldn't it be more difficult to be closer in basketball? Just asking...

When NW made their first two three pointers, I commented to my wife "well at least we know who will have their career shooting night against the Hawks". I was joking, but unfortunately turned out to be correct.

Except Minnesota (regarding football losses). :D

But, you are right, the football team was close in every game. The BB team, not so much. And I would argue that the Wake Forest loss in the worst one for Iowa this year. That is one bad team.

And, holy hell, was I wrong.

Didn't expect that at all.

A thorough butt-kicking at the hands of NW.
As I said in an earlier post by you stormin...this team is flat out not very good. A couple bright spots but man are we a long ways away. How is Fran going to get those difference makers???

The Curse of Tom Davis will not be broken until Bowlsby passes from this earth.

As some journalist recently wrote (paraphrasing): "Let the men's basketball situation be a warning sign for those who want better results from KF."

Spank, it is pretty obvious that I am one who does not wear the goggles or drink the kool-aid at all times ---- and you are.

There is no way in Haydes that I would have predicted Iowa to win last night. No way.

a) Our history against NW in basketball, and football for that matter, has not been very good recently.

b) Iowa is not a very good basketball team. Period.

For me, that is all I need to know to pick against us.

In fact, there is not another game on the schedule I will predict us to win. At the beginning of the year, I said 9-11 wins. I may have been kind.

I was at the game last night. It was embarassing.

Embarassing to see how much we got outplayed.
Embarassing to see how much we got outcoached.
Embarassing to see how ridiculously small our crowd was. (paid attendance was announced at 10,000. I guarantee you 6000 was a safer estimate. The endzones were basically empty. The corners were barren. The sides were full but about 5 rows.)

And, it all happened against Northwestern. A team that, when I was in grade school, junior high, and high school, was a guaranteed victory on the schedule.

Embarassing.

YOu picked against us and then went to the game? Did you cheer with your back turned? LOL We don't have it turned around yet. I am still watching for signs and with no expectations.

He was making a reference to where things stand NOW.

I agree, Spank. You need to get out and try the ice cream. It is easier to access this year since about 3/5 of the seats are empty inside Carver, so less people getting in line.

I would have thought so too, but the line has been 15 deep every time I've gone up to the concourse. I'll have to wait it out next time.

Only thing longer than the soft-serve line is the bobble-head line.

My summary of the game goes like this: I had a nine year old behind me (row 18, section E). In the 2nd half when NW out-hustled Iowa for a rebound/score for the umpteenth time the kid goes, "Man, those guys (us) are lazy."

Not spinning anything if you have read any of my previous posts. You are stating Iowa's 5 FB losses were to bowl teams and I am spinning something? It was a terrible loss, lets move on and hope it doesn't continue.
