Well, when you're wrong, you're wrong

We ALL had high hopes for this one Stormin...don't kick yourself too much...I'll split a crow leg quarter with you...it's not so bad!

gotcha, i think ive still got the ohio state game saved, ill re-watch that and bask in false hope. moving forward, we really need to beat Minnesota on sunday, looking forward to your write up on that spank, be prepared for the worst, hope for the best. i will say this squad is head and shoulders above lickliters teams, no matter what the record says

And, holy hell, was I wrong.

Didn't expect that at all.

A thorough butt-kicking at the hands of NW.

Spank, it is pretty obvious that I am one who does not wear the goggles or drink the kool-aid at all times ---- and you are.

There is no way in Haydes that I would have predicted Iowa to win last night. No way.

a) Our history against NW in basketball, and football for that matter, has not been very good recently.

b) Iowa is not a very good basketball team. Period.

For me, that is all I need to know to pick against us.

In fact, there is not another game on the schedule I will predict us to win. At the beginning of the year, I said 9-11 wins. I may have been kind.

I was at the game last night. It was embarassing.

Embarassing to see how much we got outplayed.
Embarassing to see how much we got outcoached.
Embarassing to see how ridiculously small our crowd was. (paid attendance was announced at 10,000. I guarantee you 6000 was a safer estimate. The endzones were basically empty. The corners were barren. The sides were full but about 5 rows.)

And, it all happened against Northwestern. A team that, when I was in grade school, junior high, and high school, was a guaranteed victory on the schedule.

Embarassing.

You are correct that we are not good...

that much is obvious. The most discouraging aspect of the last two games is the lack of effort. Yikes it will be an extremely long season is this team does not fight harder.

Not sure on the outcoached part. Carmody has much better players than does Iowa. That's the stark reality of Iowa basketball. Yes, Northwestern was a doormat when many of us were growing up. This is a not a doormat Northwestern team. This is a pretty good team (they may still not make the NCAA tournament, but they are NIT-worthy and a good team), so this Northwestern team is not a guaranteed victory for anyone.

We are the worst basketball program in the Big 10, by far, at this time. And it really isn't that close. Indiana and us are both pretty bad this year, but the talent committed to Indiana already for the next two classes is far superior to what has committed to Iowa at this point. It is truly a monumental task that McCaffery and his staff have before them.

I thought they said that prior to last nights game Iowa had won 5 of the last seven meetings. That makes it sound like our recent history against NW was pretty good. It does not change the out come of the game.

NW hadn't won in Iowa City in 7 years. And what does football have to with basketball?

Iowa was the favorite in Vegas.
KenPom predictor said Iowa would win.
RPI predictor was a tossup.
I talked to other non-Iowa fans and they thought Iowa would win too.

Rip on me all you want, but I don't think anyone expect Iowa to lose by 20+ last night.

It's not like I am tossing up predictions without any stat checking or basketball knowledge behind. Oh, it's Iowa, I had better pick them to win. I'm not that naive.

Stormin

keep the bb talk coming, who cares how bad we are at least we have hope? I think?

I like our backcourt for next year, Gatens and Cartwright, payne coming off the bench, marble will get better also, baasbe at power forward will be better next yr, but after that we need 3-4 new and more talented guys.

next year

cartwright
gatens
marble
baasbe
center????

payne? after that it seems like a lot of MVC players: May, Mccabe,Brommer, White, Ogelsby, what do you think?

anyone else?

slow day

I fully expected Iowa to win last night...but I think Stormin lack credibility with some posters due to his pre-season predictions the past two years. 14 wins for this years team is a prediction only a homer would make.

That's fine, I can live with that.

I missed the non-conf record by 2 games. Didn't expect Iowa to lose their opener or to LBS. If Iowa win those, the 9-3 prediction was right on. In Big Ten play I predicted Iowa to start off 1-5 with the lone win over NW, that didn't happen obviously so the Hawks will need to sneak one somewhere else on the schedule.

So the Hawks are -3 from where I expected them to be.
Not good, I understand that.

Well, Jon was -5 in football so you still have him beat.:D

actually, in the last 10 meetings between NW and Iowa the series is square at 5-5.

Iowa had only lost 4 times to NW from 1985-2000. Since the year 2000, Iowa leads by just a 9-7 margin.

So, in my lifetime, the recent history has shown NW has not been one of Iowa's favorite opponents like they were in my childhood and college years.

You can go by KenPom, or whatever media source you want.

NW was 11-4 coming into the game, Iowa was 7-9.
NW had won 2 BT games, Iowa had won zero.

Sorry, but I held out little hope of Iowa winning after Crawford and Thompson put the Cats up 18-6.

the only thing good about Carver last night was the ice cream.
