Weisman Healthy for Northwestern More Important than Risk v PSU?

I would contend that if Weisman is iffy this week, it might be better to let him rest and heal and be ready to go vs Northwestern.

A loss to Penn State would hurt (if you are clinging to Legends title hopes), but a loss to an opponent in your own division hurts worse if it's against a team that is contending for the Division title. Being that we are talking about the Legends, there are five teams contending for that title right now where as in the Leaders, Wisconsin probably won it last week with a win over Purdue. The Boilers are 0-2 in league.. Illinois & Indiana are 0-3. Ohio State and Penn State are not eligible.

Iowa is 2-0 in the Legends with games to play against the remaining three contenders having already beaten Michigan State, who still has a chance to win the Legends. At 0-2, MSU would need to win out and Iowa lose three times in order to win the division.

I guess let me put it this way; if Iowa could only win one vs PSU or Northwestern, I'd rather it be NW. Of course, I hope they win both but if NW beats Nebraska this Saturday, a win by Iowa v NW would be very important to Iowa's title chances.

All that said, I am not sitting here seriously thinking Iowa is going to win the Legends. If the passing game gets on track, then I think it's possible but we haven't seen much of anything yet that makes me confident that will happen.

Such BS

I still think the B1G should have changed it rules for this year. It should just take the top 2 teams by conference record no matter of division to play in the title game. It would make for much more drama and probably a better game.

Such a change would be against NCAA rules that allow a conference championship.

But then you say this in the the 'McGloin thread':

"I have had a feeling all week that Iowa's passing game comes to life in this game."

Not sure if you think JVB is going to have passing success this week or not. Just a gut feeling that he will?

I think a controlled, pound-it-out ground game that eats up clock would be far more important against Northwestern than Penn State so if Weisman is iffy this week hold him out.

Somehow, though, I suspect he'll see action.

I hope JVB figures out and fixes whatever demons he is currently fighting. Mark cannot hold up the team for the rest of the year.

True statement.JVB has lost all his confidence and he needs to get that back some how. Weisman will be ready to roll this weekend.

While I have been encouraged by the way our O-Line blocks for all RB's, I agree with Ghost.

If Weisman can play, he needs to play. As Kirk says, we're trying to win today.

As for NW and Indiana, I seriously doubt that we have a chance in either of those games, given the nature of their offense and how quickly they score, and how horrendous our offense has beem.

We need to win this weekend and if we can split the roadies, than we can start talking about caring who we beat.

Weitman is the offense. Without him, we have not scored.

Period.

Well there were those 2 other times...

It's kind of mind-boggling how CJF still doesn't have a TD. He's 6 foot ******* 7 for cripes sake! Thank gawd we have a good kicker.

We have scored 132 points this season. Weitman has 48 of them, and Meyer has 54. Our kicker and tailback account for 77% of our scoring, while our senior quarterback, the guy with his hands on the ball every play, accounts for 9%.

And for the first time in recorded history, I
actually agree with Ghost.

Weisman is much needed and I fully believe this young specimen will be ready to go on
Saturday night. He's not an old geezer like most of us, posters and Admins

Sooooo do you want Meyer to play RB or QB? Im confused.

Even bad offenses score on Indiana, see MSU.

1. Although the defense has been great and the running game very good, our passing game thus far has been extremely weak. As a result, the margin of error for this team is very small (hence all the close games).

2. Vandy plays better at home and we are at home this week. I think PSU and NW are about the same from a talent standpoint. Thus, if Weisman can play, he should play. We need him to defeat Penn State. A realistic goal for this team is 6 or 7 wins, which gets us a very attractive bowl bid with Ohio State, Penn State, Illinois and Indiana out of the running and Minnesota and Purdue below us. Michigan State also is not that attractive right now - 7 wins and you are probably talking Gator Bowl worst case. Get to 7 any way you can.

I don't think you pick and choose which game you want to win. If Weisman is healthy enough to play Saturday night, you play him. If not, the Canzeri show.

I wouldnt be surprised if Weisman misses the NW game also.

Kirk is notoriously off (whether on purpose or not) when it comes to being accurate about players' return. Not only will I NOT be surprised if he misses the Northwestern game, I would not be surprised if he misses the Indiana game, too.
