Weight Gains Year over Year

What do you guys make of these though?

Daumantas Venckus-Cucchiara - from 230 to 235 (+5)
Travis Perry - from 230 to 232 (+2)

Especially the first guy as he's supposed to become a down lineman.

My guess is that Daumantas or DVC, as I like to call him, has been sitting between Blythe (+25) and Malloy (+35) at the training table feeding sessions. We need to get that kid to strap on the feed bag.

Think about this...after Donnal and Scherff went down our o-line went something like this:
Tobin - 290
Boffeli - 285
Ferentz - 280 (I don't think he is even that big)
Blythe - 275
Van Sloten - 292

Now, provided the depth chart stays in tact.

Scherff - 315
Boffeli - 295
Blythe -300
Donnal - 305
Van Sloten - 300

As I mentioned, from what I heard, Simmons (305) will be in the rotation somewhere to determine the best option at left or right guard. I don't think big NT or DT's will push through these guys like last year. We were terribly undersized last year after the injuries. I like the looks of this group...and you have Ward, Keppy, and Walsh not able to crack this line-up yet. The OL looks pretty solid for the next few years for sure.

Is it a good sign that our punter packed on 25lbs in the offseason?

Kirk has decided that what's good for the goose, is good for the gander. Therefore, every punting play this year will be a fake and he wants his punter to have a little heft when he is barreling down the field.

I don't know about that....

I've been questioning our performance related to strength and conditioning ever since the Rhabdo incident (and even a little before as we did not look physical at all the 2nd half of the season in 2010). We haven't been nearly as physical at the point of attack as we have before, we aren't nearly as physical or as ferocious in our tackling as we normally have been, and we don't look nearly as "fit" from an eye test standpoint.

Doyle is very good at his job and is respected as one of the elite in his field, concerning physical development. He needs to be as is been discussed adnauseum due to inherent recruiting challenges in bringing in "ready made" recruits.

This is not my opinion, it is per a number of folks that attend the national conferences and interviews with now NFL players who were not projected to be.

There are plenty of warranted questions able the staff that will be answered in the next 2 seasons. Doyle is Not one of those questions.

I think Jordan Walsh started a game or two at 270 pounds. We're often not a big OL by B1G standards but after the PSU game(losing Donnal and Schreff) we had a OL smaller than many MAC teams.

These kids used to set their alarm and get up in the middle of the night to eat. As they had to consume a certain number of calories so many time a day. It was a very strict ruotine they were on.
Interrupting sleep to consume calories would not be smart. Worked/damaged muscles repair during deep sleep; so it's not a very good idea to interfere with that if you're looking to add lean muscle mass.

I like seeing Iowa's OL at 300+ lbs. across the board. I think the QBs and RBs (whoever ends up playing) will like those big boys up front, too.

Obviously Malloy getting big is noticeable, but he is buried in the depth chart and I think he is injured right now? Cool to see him putting in work though!

----However the thing I noticed the most was that Kirksey is up to 235 now. His game would be the most effected by losing some speed. Expect him to lose some of that when we have him covering slot receivers again.

I think this just means they want Perry to work on his speed.

DVC puzzles me a little bit, though.

A couple weeks ago my wife and kids and I we're eat breakfast at Perkins in Coralville. The O line must have just finished lifting or workout about 10 of them came in to eat breakfast. Boy was that impressive how much they could eat. Plate after plate keep coming out from the kitchen it was never ending it seemed. I forgot just how big they are, words cant even describe they're height and size. I'm 6'3" 230 and I felt very small sitting next to them. I bet they're bill had to be $30-$40 per person.

You did leave with all your kids right. Letting them get that close to a feeding session can be dangerous. They could lose a limb or something.

I was there, also. When they got up to walk out, which is when I saw them, it was, "I hope they won't take a dislike to me..." You just don't really realize how big those guys are until you see them up close and personal. It is a similar feeling you get when you watch Josh O., for example, on the bb floor and he looks small...then you walk next to him and he is 6'5".
