We won't avg 63,000 fans next year...

When you combine the pathetic season that just ended with the worst home schedule in the history of the program...there's no way we avg more than 63,000 next year. And when you take 7,500 seats x $400/season ticket, you come up with $3,000,000.... There's your buyout by the way.

But I don't want Barta anywhere near a process that would select a new coach. He's done nothing but drive every single program under his watch into complete irrelevance. I grew up watching a football program go to Rose Bowls, a men's basketball program routinely go to the NCAAs (and make a final four, elite 8 and a couple sweet 16s), a women's bball team win conference titles, NCAA games and even set an arena stadium record and a wrestling team win NCAA titles....not to mention having all programs routinely ranked in the top 25. Now we're completely irrelevant. His only claim to fame is raising money....but with as generous a fan base as we have....any decent AD could do that.

Weve got the facilities, revenue, resources, fanbase, and history.....we've been relevant before and can be again one day....but it takes leadership with vision and the guts to communicate it and hold every member of the program accountable to it. It takes a coaching staff that is passionate about the program they serve and believe they can win....not one that says "that's football" while blowing yet another game or that the only way to win titles at Iowa is to essentially luck into them by saying "everything has to fall into place just right".

We, as fans, deserve better than we've been given for the last decade....especially given the level of support that the athletic department has been given. And frankly, I'm sick and f'ing tired of the bullspit excuses that we're given and the lack of accountability that permeates the entire athletic department. We're about to see just how much the entire fanbase is tired of it as well when Kinnick sees the largest amount of empty seats it's seen since before the turn of the millennium. Maybe then, heads will finally roll and we can start to purge the stink that's hung over the entire department.

Don't forget all the donations that come with the season tickets. That amount of empty seats more than make up for the buyout.

Only issue I have with your theory is a new hire turning that crap of a schedule into all sell outs to get the $3 mil.... Ain't gonna happen.

No but it sure would get us closer. I don't think there is any doubt that we would sell more tickets with a new coach than we would with Kirk.

Maybe... But the OP makes it seem as though it's an immediate fix to covering the $3 m and it's not.

I guess I'm one of the few KF supporters hanging on. Orange Bowls for Iowa was a lot of fun. He'll never have an offensive juggernaut but I get it.... We aren't going to get the great skill players at Iowa. So we try to eat up clock and win the turnover battle.

With that said... KF loses my support if there is not a change made at OC.

This is the number one problem with some fans and that is blame the assistants when the issue is KF. He has complete and total control of schemes and personnel evals. You can bring in Chip Kelly and you will see the same ineptness on offense with the same marginal offensive line.

We may not get the nation's elite prospects but the players who have skills and talent cannot get onto the field. The combination of Willies, Smith and Powell would have been the most dynamic set of receivers we have had in a long, long time and better than anyone else in the B1G West. Throw in a trigger man like CJ (or Sokol until he was pushed out by Kirk) and you have something. Instead we watch KMM, Vandeburg and Hillyer with Jake way underperform.

You want to change results you have to change out the head coach.

After the Minnesota game, the secondary market crashed on the Wisconsin and Nebraska games.

StubHub had tickets for $10/each, the day of the Wisconsin game, and it still wasn't sold out, and this was a HUGE game, as we all know. Nebraska tickets were $25/each on StubHub.
I was 45 minutes from the stadium and didn't feel like going to the game, because of low expectations, and I live near Nashville, Tennessee, year round.

Seeing that the home games won't have marquee schools, from a financial point of view, it makes no sense to buy tickets from the University next year.

I'll take the under on the 63,000 fans, and guess, closer to 60,000, unless $5 kids tickets are brought back to one of the home games.

2012: 70,747
2013: 67,125
2014: 67,614
2015: ????

I'm not sure what to think for next year. It wouldn't surprise me if we dip below 65,000 in attendance. KF has lost the die hard fans, and when you do that, you are losing the most loyal fans you have. I would have never thought I'd drop my season tix, but I am.

Good lord, when are people like you going to pull your heads out of your @sses???? I pulled mine out 3 years ago. KF football is irrelevant. Other programs like MSU ,Wiscy and now Minny have blowned by Iowa and yet you can sit there and still support this crap product KF calls football???

OP,great points. But to be fair the dowward spiral really began with Bob Bowlsby(blows my mind how well he has done the moment he left Iowa, perhaps he was handkuffed by administration) for his mishandling in not hiring Bob Stoops. His hiring of Alfraud. If not for KF catching lighting in a bottle from 2002 to 2005 can't imagine what the state of our program would be.

I agree with you that I do not trust Sally and Barta to get a good hire for the FB program. They both need to go.

Bowlsby didn't mishandle the hiring of Stoops, look no further than the top brass at the University for that one. And everyone and his brother wanted Alford, don't kid yourself. Heck, I'd say that given the fact that Alford has managed to land at one of the historical top 5 programs, he has probably been the best hire in FB, BB or wrasslin' in the past 20+ years. Ferentz was a good hire, too, but the extensions are looking pretty questionable. I don't understand why they don't negotiate a cause trigger such that the coach can be terminated when the trophy case gets emptied or the team absolutely stinks for a few years in a row.

You are correct,Golden Boy was the sexy hire everyone wanted, but it doesn't change the fact that he ran the BB program into the ground. As far as Stoops, everything I have read about it says that he wanted to wait untill he completed other interviews. That upset Stoops and he took the Okie job.

Bowlsby having to wait to get clearance to make a hire instead of signing Bob Stoops was a high level management problem. Whether it was the old Board in Control of Athletics or the UofI president/etc Bowlsby should have had the go ahead with him to hire whoever/whenever.

Who would blame Stoops for jumping at OU when the hawks blinked. KF did great his first 6 years but he also had much greater assistants and recruiters. He has the same problem Fry had when Fry had so many great assistants move on, including KF.

This is why it is so hard to have a head coach succeed for so long. Heck OU is struggling sometimes to maintain their top 5 pedigree.

Alford got us a three seed in his penultimate season. He also won the Big Ten twice. Pretty hard to say that he ran the program into the ground. He didn't kick us up to the "next level" consistently like the fans wanted, but during his tenure the entire landscape shifted and the mid major programs gained dramatically in strength, as did Wisconsin. Those things weren't his fault and even vaunted programs like Michigan and Indiana took a nose dive during the time Alford was in IC, so the diminution in B10 caliber was certainly not his fault. If you want to see a program run into the ground, look no further than what Sir Todd Lickliter did to the team. Ugh, that was bad.

Calling ******** on this. Captain Coward could have a high power "O" but playmakers scare the hell out of him and his philosophy is contrary to pulverizing opponents.

Our playmakers are plenty good enough to shine but they're not on the field. Instead we run stretch plays with slow white fullbacks. I would bet chip kelly could do plenty with our skilled players but captain vagina is too scared.

And we shouldn't. Our program is a joke that doesn't demand winning and accepts mediocrity and the gameday atmosphere inside, outside and around Kinnick is downright embarrassing these days. I went to a couple games this year (haven't been in a several years as I live out of state) and was talking it up to family/friends only to find the most solemn group of people walking in a procession into the stadium. It was like we were all walking to a funeral, no one excited, no noise, no one talking, not to mention the most boring tailgate scene anywhere in football. It was so bad, and so sad, no where near the levels of excitement it used to be back when I was in school in the early 2000's and even visiting in late 2000's. My WI relatives were laughing, the area around the stadium was a complete pit of despair. I suppose it should be expected when you go watch a non-contender and everyone knows it?
