We really need a good year.

Pretty bold statement on the "better recruiter, coach, and talent developer" than KF.
IMO, he is. Not that I will discount anything KF has done, I think that he has done an impressive job at Iowa. At this particular moment, I think that Pelini (starting his 4th year as HC) is just a little better than KF, and I expect him to get better as he gets more experience.

Just personal opinion from someone who is closer to DoNU than I am Iowa.

I know Washington was impressed.
Are you referring to the Holiday Bowl when the Huskers played like garbage or the 35 point beat down UW got in Seattle in September?

Hunter, I hear what you are saying about Bo having a better first four years than Kirk. But, when Kirk took over Iowa in 99 the cupboard was almost empty. That was not the case when Pelini took over for Callahan. You say Callahan wasn't a good talent evaluator? Joe Ganz, Swift, Peterson, Suh, Lucky (diss him if you want but running for a 1,000 and 800 rec is a HUGE year), and others. On top of that look at the recruits he he had decommit...Gabbert top ten pick...freeman...18th pick. Could Callahan recruit yes...could he coach...well the offensive line. Also, is Pelini's track record with developing talent good? Absolutely, but I don't think you quite have a grasp on Kirk's track record of player development.

it seems we need someone willing to play the smash mouth type game we will be missing and by the sounds of it Bo is going to move more towards that type of ball (old Husker football).
Reports are, the offense will be a little more "multiple" for lack of a better word. More power, but with some option, zone read, and a little more passing mixed in.

This will be an interesting year for sure. I am looking forward to playing a bunch of new teams, the Hawks included. Should be fun!

I agree, it should be fun. Can't wait until the divisional season starts, you can bet I'll be watching you guys go up to WI.

Noted. But Callahan's recruits were not always what Pelini wanted, and they didn't always fit well into the systems he wanted to run.

True, I am not as close to the Iowa program as Hawk fans. From an outsiders point of view, I think that KF has done a very good job with player development. I have always been impressed with what he has done with Iowa's O-Lines and D-Lines. He has turned guys like Prater, Shada, Tarpenian, etc (who were not high on Nebraska's radar) into very good players, I can't knock him for it.

I guess I'm more familiar with what happens in Lincoln than I am with what happens in Iowa City.

Uhhh, yeah, I'm referring to the game in September. I forgot, Husker fans always say, "Champions are crowned in September". Laying an egg against a 6-6 team is pretty embarrassing, especially after you schooled them in September. Great coaching really got your boys ready to play. Ferentz hasn't lost a game by more than one possession in over 3 years...his teams always show up.

I believe good coaching shows up in the bowl games. Kirk has won 3 in a row, one a BCS and one against the #12 team in the country. He also had more players drafted last year than all but two schools. And this year he may have more drafted than last year.

I don't believe your argument holds too much water, other than Pelini may garner more stars in the recruiting process.

+1, but you have to remember husker fans are like kids and have a selective memory.

There were plenty of ****-poor reasons why DoNU lost that bowl game, lack of motivation, preparation, hurt qb, an inept dead-duck offensive coordinator, et al. All of this, of course, falls back onto Bo Pelini. The defense played well enough to win, and the offense, well, played horribly enough that they couldn't have beat a high school team.

Keep in mind that KF is in, what, his 10th or 12th year, and Pelini is going into year #4. He is still learning, still getting his staff together, still getting everything in place. When (and if) he is here as long as KF has been at Iowa, I'm betting (and hoping) that he will have DoNU as an annual top ten team.

Most of us would like to forget the bowl game, fwiw.

Now that was a sensible statement...much different from your earlier claim,

"While I have much respect for what KF has done, I am of the opinion that Bo Pelini is a better recruiter, coach, and talent developer than KF."

Let's see where Pelini is in 5-6 years...then you can maybe make this statement, but recent history doesn't support your argument especially knowing the Nebraska's recruiting classes have historically been much stronger than Iowas. Ferentz has done much more in the player development area...ask the NFL people.
