We Own; Penn State!

Check out the PSU forum sometime. The respect doesn't appear to be mutual.

Use the chant.

Okay, I was talking about their fans I met in person. I read what they were saying on their Audibles board. I'm now cool with the chant, sorry fellas. ;)

You must be the guy that tells me to sit down at Kinnick. I knew you were on here somewhere.

Your mom sits down at Kinnick.

Really though, the several Penn State fans I met were class acts. I don't need to defend my fandom but I can't usually speak clearly until Tuesday after Iowa games, I just thought "We Own. . . Penn State" sounded like something a 12 year old would come up with. No offense.

Your mom kneels at Kinnick!
No offense taken.

That's a funny old t-shirt. I just think it would sound idiotic to say "We Own. . . Penn State", maybe it's because I like them as a program and all thier fans I met had a mutual respect. That sounds to me like something Illannoy might say if they got on a streak against us.

Please, don't use this chant at the Penn State game.

I'm down with it... just so I could see the meltdown on their board after they heard about it from one of their own that was in Kinnick. Apparently a few of them already think Iowa fans are the most obnoxious in college football. Obviously most college football fans would disagree with that, but if they want to say it we might as well hold up on our end for them.

I have no problem with the Kinnick faithful soaking up the moment and reminding PSU who's currently sitting closer to the end of the "Big Boys table" as they like to put it.

Wonder if Northwestern will do the same thing?

It wouldn't make any sense if they are. PSU chants "WE ARE"...."PENN STATE" .... in their stadium. Iowa fans started the "We Own...Penn State" towards the end of the game in Happy Valley last year. It would be funny to do this year, but at the same time more fun to do in their stadium.

Next time I hear We Are...Iowa in Kinnick....NW can start their owning chant IF they continue to win for the next half decade.

I'm usually one to be firmly against chanting... we're not a junior high softball team but that's a decent and clever chant that i would participate in- once.

and to say this isn't "classy"? This chant isn't half as bad as some of the things that get said, chanted, or displayed to opposing fans at ANY stadium tailgates or football games.

you stay classy san diego!

Rules:
Chant will only begin in the 4th quarter with a lead of 10 points or more.
Chant must originate in Student Section (We Own)
While the rest of the fans supply (Penn State)

Exaaaaactly!! Was thinking the same thing. One half do the WE OWN & the other half of the stadium do the PENN ST. But, having the students do the WE OWN is even nifftyer.

If we play the way we're capable of, it would be "Stop! You're Hurting Us!"

But seriously, I don't like the "We own" chant either.

Do you understand that it is a knock-off of their original chant "We are - Penn St"? It kind of has a two-fold effect & is simply brilliant, my dear, brilllliant

I say do it at the commercial break in between quarters & the whole 4th quarter. Just waiting until/if the game is secured or Iowa up by 10 or so is spineless & cheesy. Show some confidence in the team. Why waste 2 1/2 hrs of getting under Penn St fans skin?

I would personally love to hear this chant at Kinnick.....but it would have to be late in the 4th quarter with the Hawkeyes comfortably ahead 35-10.

The point of chants is not to be prophetic...it is to fire up your team and fans and get the fans involved...and in some instances to get under the skin of your opponents. Those who have been on the roster at Penn St for a few years (most of their starters) will understand why fans are chanting that and depending on the player's personality it could either have a positive or negative effect...or no effect at all.

I remember at an Iowa basketball game in '06 during pregame warmups against Illinois my buddy and I started chanting from the student section "Second Round Dee Brown"...(in reference to the fact that the NCAA Runner Up '05 team had sent two guards to the NBA in the first round and while Deron Williams and Dee Brown were neck and neck as college teammates Williams left early and was a high lottery pick...Brown stayed and his NBA future looked considerably less bright)...Brown clearly heard the chants and when the Hawkeyes went into the locker room...Dee Brown and Dee Brown alone walked to our side of the court...stared right at us and stood at the out of bounds line five feet from us...turned around and drained a deep f'n bomb...we almost crapped ourselves. He grabbed his own rebound...stared us down and did the same thing again...then he walked back to the other side of the court.

In the first half of that game (against undefeated #10 Illinois...granted it was early in the season)...Dee Brown had something like 2 points including a missed open court layup and I believe he was 0-2 from the free throw line (my memory could be a little off). We won the game.

Maybe it had a small part to do with my friend and I...most likely it didn't have anything to do with it...but we had a blast...others got involved...and at the very least it went noticed by the intended target.

That's why you use chants...and no we never worried that he might end up going in the late 1st round.
