We need 3 pt shooters

It's a bit odd to me that people are so focused on the post... yeah Part of Gonzaga's danger was their post players...

But Iowa's big advantage most of the year was its size and inside scoring... consistently for the past two years our lack of a threat from guard has been the biggest problem.

If they HIT 10 3 pointers in every game, they will win the National Championship.

They won't and they won't, but if they shoot like they did against the HAWKEYES, they'll be playing on
Championshp Monday nite.

I agree with this in some ways... however they had a lot of wide open/easy shots and that was part of why they made so many.

Dahh, don't you think Fran is looking for 3 pt shooters and mobile 7's. Those guys aren't in abundance to start with. 4 and 5 star guys are out, they are going to Duke, NC, etc. We have to find the 3* that is over looked(White). Undersized or from small school, with potential. Got to look if they have the tools to develop. Need to be quick and tough. If they don't have that to start, it will be hard to develop into player you want. Coach needs to be adaptable to type of players he has, he isn't always going to get everybody that fits his style.

Agreed.

Big men? we had like the 3rd tallest starting line up in the nation...

Most of our scoring came from the inside or free throw line..

yeah we need to replace white but until we find shooters its never going hit the next level.

Tall does not make you a true big. Woodbury is 7ft and gets bullied like a freshman in highschool. He can't dunk and doesn't defend. We need physical big men.

Seriously?
Gabe was for the most part, pretty decent.
Woodbury is slow, clumsy, a poor shooter, and a very average rebounder for his size. Somehow he gets credit for being a good defender but I just do not see it.
It is really painful to watch him play.

The difference between the Gonzaga bigs and our was like night and day.

Well I was considering White and Uthoff as part of our bigs.

The main difference in this game was their guards and Wiltjer shooting and how well they had our screen defense scouted.

Their bigs looked so good because they were getting easy looks.

Every time their bigs walked out like they were going to set a screen our bigs were lunging out to nowhere to try and hedge and theirs were slipping strait to the basket for uncontested shots.

Actually there is an abundance of guys that can hit 3s. They're all over college basketball.

the other two teams in this state have a bunch of them.

we have a 4* pg who for some reason can't make a 3 or consistently make free throws.

that guy had 9 pts 4 reb...

The two dudes who could drain 3's had 24 pts and 16 pts

Well, I wasn't saying I wanted that guy... he already plays for another team! :)

However, he was 4 for 6 and could have pretty much scored at will if they would have fed him the ball more. He was so much stronger than our "bigs" that they couldn't stop him from backing it in. Of course they didn't need to do that, since they were hitting everything they threw up from outside.

Bottom line, except for our 3 and 4, one of which is gonna be hard to replace, we need to get better (or at least more consistent) at every position.

This is something people really are failing to remember... a lot of their insides scoring was WIDE OPEN because we got caught in between or guarding shooters.

There were way more easy layups and uncontested shots then actual post moves.

I really think it's our lack of a 3 point threat at the PG spot. Mike has bettered his game in a lot of ways but if he could improve this part of his game, look out.

Both Mike's attempts and percentages have fallen each year since he was a freshman. Mike scored 99 points as a freshman from 3 in comparison to this year only 48 points.

I thought I'd try to find some comparisons from other PG:

Mike Gesell: 26.7%
Anthony Clemmons: 37.3%
Monte Morris: 39.5%
Yogi Ferrell: 41.6%
Kevin Pangos: 44.9%
Spike Albrecht: 36.5%

Some of these guards probably aren't a fair comparison but I'd be willing to bet if you looked at attempts and % to most PG, Mike doesn't stack up too well.

The big boy traveled two or three times when he was actually posted up trying to make a move.

difference in the game was their guards.
