We need 3 pt shooters

They're size was a problem for us... but the difference is they had an outside/inside game which is hard to defend.

Their point guard you can't give him an inch or he will stick it.

Our point guard you can sag off of and our 3pt shooting 2 guards go 0-4 from range.

Exactly, they have good bigs and decent guards. We had decent bigs and D2 level guards.

I vote for shooters and better guards, more athletic kids....only way to compete w/better teams in our league and in the tournament....we are too slow, and even if we're open we have no idea on how to knock down shots when we need them...

That was my point also. Thank you.

Exactly, the teams that have been successful have guards that can shoot the three and also can explode to the basket making them a dual threat. Kinda like Marble in the games when his threes were falling. A player like that with a beast under the basket would make a huge difference.

I do think that our forwards Uthoff and White are as good a combo as anyone else's in the country.

Yeah I said they should be slow and bad at everything else /nod

I wasn't saying you were wrong I am just frustrated that some of the guys we have were suppose to be three point shooters coming out of high school and that was their specialty because they aren't an explosive threat to take it to the rim so when they aren't doing their specialty their performance is pretty underwhelming.

Seriously?
Gabe was for the most part, pretty decent.
Woodbury is slow, clumsy, a poor shooter, and a very average rebounder for his size. Somehow he gets credit for being a good defender but I just do not see it.
It is really painful to watch him play.

The difference between the Gonzaga bigs and our was like night and day.

Agree with the theme of this thread. Watching last night's game, it's pretty obvious that Iowa is still lacking scorers (in general), at least when compared to Top 1-2 seed type opponents.

Iowa is unable to consistently shoot from behind the arc, and Gonzaga's size bothered us enough where Iowa couldn't seem to really get anything consistent going in the paint, either.

I still like this year's team, but they were exposed a bit last night - still need more skilled players if Iowa is going to be better than 7-9 seed material.

I agree. Problem is, outside of those two (and White is done, sadly) I'm not sure where the offense is coming from on a regular basis. Maybe Jok if he can find some consistency.. As I just said, Iowa needs more scorers.

Well, let's see. We lose Oglesby who was maybe 26% from 3 this year and gain Fleming, Williams, Moss and maybe Ellingson who are guys who can or potentially will be good from 3. Just by sheer numbers, we're bound to be better from 3 than this year.

We need legitimate high major level guards all around. Having a pg who is not evened looking to shoot a 3 and a sg (Jok) who can't dribble is ridiculous.

Gesell loves to take super long two pointers though. He has a very limited ceiling unless he somehow finds a 3 point stroke over the summer. I'm really high on Flemming based on what I've seen from him.

I thought Mike improved quite a bit attacking the paint as the year went on, he needs to relax on shooting deep 2's though.

Part of shooting 3s is having a PG who can penetrate, draw the defense in and kick it out for open 3s.
Mike and Sapp are both good back up type guards on a BIG Ten team but neither really have this ability, and Mike especially doesn't shoot the 3 well. Great guard play wins in the tourney usually, look at Wichita State that VanFleet guy makes everything tick and has Mid-Major talent around him but makes them all better and they win.

Iowa can beat anyone! - Friday night

Iowa needs better players and 3pt shooters - Yesterday

I think it was a mental thing for Mike with his injury this year. You could tell after he hurt his elbow he knew he couldn't shoot a 3, so he would take a wide open 3 take a dribble to 18' and then launch. It was frustrating, and hopefully he won't do that next year when he is healthy. You can hit 30% from the 3 pt. shot and be better off than hitting 40% from 18'.

Clemmons showed some promise from 3. Hopefully he builds on that. They'll need that from him next year.

Sapp really played a good game vs Gonzaga. 10 pts.....good Defense.

With Sapp, Mike and Jok in the backcourt, next season, I think that is in Good hands.

Uthoff will be our GO TO big guy. Woody will be Woody........& then, need a couple of the
Recruits to step up.
