We just lost a recruit to who?

Yep, we just got beat out on a 3 star wr to Nevada. I mean come freaking on. Now don't get me wrong i don't know much about it other than we were in the top four along with Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Nevada. That my friends is weak sauce. We can't win over those three schools we must clearly have the wrong recruiting pitch. The fact that we are courting a guy that is interested in any of the three other schools is flat out a joke. We are settling for less time and time again. Clearly we lack in the recruiting efforts and it trickles down to the wins. I still can't get over the fact that we are playing Tennessse who went 6-6 and based on most recruiting reports they have the 4-8th best team rank. We are by most accounts ranked between 55-70th. And we wonder where Kirk is taking the ship? Jon came up with some pretty sobering stats that said Iowas recruiting ranks paralleled the win totals. IF that holds true it won't be long til we are 3-9 with the 66th best recuiting class coming in. The staff is fat and happy and based on Tennesee's staff they must be lazy. It all starts with recruiting and we are way off. Time for a mutiny!!

But why would you care if we lost this recruit? Most of the posters on this site complain that we don't get enough kids that are not courted by MAC schools, but by power conference teams. According to most everything I read on Hawkeyenation, this is just another useless 3 star who should go to a directional school, or Nevada,or someplace. We just can't win. Shucks...another fall back gets away from our horrible coaching staff.

It's a WR... Tough to sell a recruit on how important his downfield blocking will be and to make sure he makes the most of the 2-3 targets he may get a game.

You said you don't know much about it, then proceed to indict the coaches, condemn the future, and write off any other recruits. Can we just pump the brakes for a moment to find out why this kid chose a different school?

Iowa wanted him to play a different position than what he really wanted to play. That is why he chose Nevada.

God forgive me for defending Kirk's recruiting efforts, but it's been well established that this guy wanted to play offense in college and Iowa wanted him on defense only. The mid majors involved here were offering him an opportunity to play WR, and we were not. Also of note is that his primary recruiter for Nevada is former Iowa assistant Lester Erb.

Well, Nevada is riding high right now after beating Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl and finishing 7-6. Tough to compete with a young man against a program with momentum like that.

How about we actually get a staff that recruits a player to play their actual position, not convert them over from offense to defense or vice versa. Pathetic

Comprehension much? Most guys who play D1 ball played both ways in high school. I'm sure he was pretty stout on defense but made his college choice based on his preference to play offense in college. Seriously, how did you not glean that from the posts above?

I'm sorry but 8 years ago if we were recruiting the same 3 star kid against those other three weak teams he without a shadow of a doubt would have chosen Iowa cause we would have been the only team ranked in the top 25 his entire college football career. to me it's more that we lost out to a guy over these schools regardless of what scheme or position the kid will play. When the Nevadas and Western Michigans win a recruiting battle to me that's where the ship begins taking on water...

And what facility advantage does Tennessee have that we don't? They don't have a massive climate difference, the facilities are similar if not better here, and they've got 12 guys in espn's top 300 recruits and we have ZERO. The fact that we don't get those guys and the fact that we are setteling for these third class guys AND losing those tells me the staff has become complacent in their recruiting and it all trickles down from there.

I think he's only a 2 star and they got him because of Erb who was at one time one of our recruiters now recruits for Nevada.

They play in the SEC.
They play in a 105,000 seat stadium
There is a significant climate difference. They actually have a spring, for instance.
There are mountains just outside of town.
They have a pretty good football tradition.
They are physically closer to big time recruits.

That was my point. Why in the hell are we recruiting him then if he didn't want to play the position we wanted him to?Because we are scraping the bottom of the barrel for recruits that's why. This staff simply sucks all the way around, period. Remember this is the same staff that at one point was going to move our Doak Walker Award winner to safety. Friggin comical. There's still some time left to poach a recruit or 2 from Western Michigan, maybe Toledo, Akron? Hell Captain Clueless might try getting on I-80 and grabbing a recruit or 2 from St. Ambrose.

One crap excuse after another for a completely incompetent staff, let's keep 'em coming instead of replacing this band of goons with a staff that can actually get it done. There's mountains just outside of town.... That's amazing, Colorado should mop up in recruiting every year then. Explain how we are getting out recruited by all, but 2 B1G teams. Minnesota? Indiana has now passed us up. Last I checked there are no mountains in Minneapolis, weather sucks there too, small stadium. Oh, thats right it's all the lakes, the recruits can go ice fishing in the winter. How can we compete with that?

I thought a brand spanking new state of the art indoor practice facility would help recruiting..Not... a kid would rather play at High School stadium than at Kinnick for Kfootball.
