We just lost a recruit to who?

They play in the SEC.
They play in a 105,000 seat stadium
There is a significant climate difference. They actually have a spring, for instance.
There are mountains just outside of town.
They have a pretty good football tradition.
They are physically closer to big time recruits.

Two words are always critical to people touting Tennessee: Peyton Manning.

Some of us have voiced our concerns on the recruiting subject for a number of years. They've become like worn pages in a book. We've only made it easier and easier for opposing coaches to plant doubt in the minds of many prospects considering Iowa these days.

"Surprises" are now defined by those we land not by those we lose.

People make the difference.

KF is the ONLY coach in the entire nation that purposely shy's away from trying to land the big fish...ever noticed how if he gets burned once...whatever the situation....he NEVER tries it again. He is a stubborn fool thinking he can win at the highest level (Of course we've never heard him say that) trying to "Coach up" 2 stars for twelve (12) straight games....CANNOT be done!!!

Yep, we just got beat out on a 3 star wr to Nevada. I mean come freaking on. Now don't get me wrong i don't know much about it other than we were in the top four along with Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Nevada. That my friends is weak sauce. We can't win over those three schools we must clearly have the wrong recruiting pitch. The fact that we are courting a guy that is interested in any of the three other schools is flat out a joke. We are settling for less time and time again. Clearly we lack in the recruiting efforts and it trickles down to the wins. I still can't get over the fact that we are playing Tennessse who went 6-6 and based on most recruiting reports they have the 4-8th best team rank. We are by most accounts ranked between 55-70th. And we wonder where Kirk is taking the ship? Jon came up with some pretty sobering stats that said Iowas recruiting ranks paralleled the win totals. IF that holds true it won't be long til we are 3-9 with the 66th best recuiting class coming in. The staff is fat and happy and based on Tennesee's staff they must be lazy. It all starts with recruiting and we are way off. Time for a mutiny!!

Didn't need/want him.

One crap excuse after another for a completely incompetent staff, let's keep 'em coming instead of replacing this band of goons with a staff that can actually get it done. There's mountains just outside of town.... That's amazing, Colorado should mop up in recruiting every year then. Explain how we are getting out recruited by all, but 2 B1G teams. Minnesota? Indiana has now passed us up. Last I checked there are no mountains in Minneapolis, weather sucks there too, small stadium. Oh, thats right it's all the lakes, the recruits can go ice fishing in the winter. How can we compete with that?

Take a deep breath, there, Chief.

I never said that I thought Iowa's coaching staff was doing well, and I don't think Minny (which does exist in a pretty cool city, but that's beside the point), or Indy, should pass Iowa. I think the coaches are doing a horrible job.

I am saying that Tennessee has some advantages over Iowa in terms of recruiting. I love my home state, but getting guys from the south ain't easy. Have you looked around? Iowa is a tough sell to a southern kid.

Having said that, Iowa can do a lot better.

I get your point about Colorado. It's not like they've ever won anything there. Oh, wait.

How about we actually get a staff that recruits a player to play their actual position, not convert them over from offense to defense or vice versa. Pathetic

Lol, as if Alabama, Ohio State or any other elite program doesn't also ask kids to switch sides of the ball. Remember Brad Banks? We got him because the SEC and ACC schools he was getting recruited by wanted to make him a defensive back.

But then again, I suppose we should have stuck with A.J. Derby at quarterback. I'm sure that would have worked out real well.

Ignore Caddy....he is just an over the top zealot (and Alt). He is gonna hate on KF and call him an idiot if KF says that the sun rises in the east.

You guys aren't giving enough credit to what Nevada has done as a program, who is working there, and what a great college town they are in. Lester Erb was the best recruiter we had, now he is making the Hawks pay for letting him go. When you see Nevada on tape, you want to install their offense because they just shred people. I have been to Reno and its the perfect place to go to college, it just doesn't get any better. Its just a short drive to the mountains, the lake, the world class casinos, the Silver rush towns, the nuke base, and so much more.

Has someone told him that Colin Kapernick is now playing for the Niners? Do they have a QB to throw it to him? That is probably what sold it.

Calling someone the best recruiter on Iowa's staff is like saying you're the prettiest ISU fan at the methadone clinic.

Do I need to paint the picture for you. Imagine a long haired tall and fast quarterback from Tennessee, whose father writes country music, and a rocket for an arm, lining up in the pistol formation out in Reno.

Wasn't that a Johnny Cash song?

If we did that:
  • Robert Gallery would have been a tight end.
  • Marvin McNutt would have played quarterback.
  • Tyler Sash would have played running back.
  • Greg Mabin would be playing wide receiver.
  • John Lowdermilk would be playing linebacker.
  • Anthony Hitchens would have played running back.
  • Connor Boffeli would have played tight end.
  • Micah Hyde would have played quarterback.
  • Riley Reiff would have played defensive end.
  • AJ Edds would have played tight end.
  • Karl Klug would have played linebacker.
  • Mitch King would have played linebacker.
  • Matt Kroul would have played linebacker.

Probably many others I've missed. These were just a quick check of the Rivals site.
