We have a lot of hypocrites on this board.

The Penn State case wasn't about a fan base. Fan bases are probably the same from school to school. The PSU case was about a head coach who didn't do the right thing. If paterno had acted, everything would have been different. He chose to protect Sandusky and tried to sweep the problem under the rug. It didn't work and now the school pays.

I'm not sure it happens at other schools.

Sorry, but you still don't seem to get it. Nothing is being taken from kids. Those kids that are the 84th and 85th scholarship on PSU, go there strictly because they were offered a scholarship, but they aren't left on the street otherwise. They also had offers to Indiana. The 85th scholly on Indiana then might have to drop to Toledo. The 85th on Toledo might drop to UNI........etc.

Maybe we should just offer 200 scholarships per team, and the worlds problems would be solved.
If you follow your train of thought to its logical conclusion, some kids at the end of the line aren't getting scholarships to somewhere.

logic and common sense dont comply with some people's brains. i figured after he had wrote this he would have understood what i was getting at.

Right. I said that earlier. but Fovals moronic claim that the end of the bench at PSU gets left out is just dumb. It is the end of the bench at Iowa Wesleyan that eventually gets left out. So sad I know.

I understand exactly what you are getting at. The problem is that it is a dumb point to make. You really think that PSU shouldn't be punished with scholarship losses because some kid might not be able to get a ride to Graceland miles down the road?
Your little violin is not making any sound.

so you are ok with jerry sandusky possibly having a better chance at an education in prison and some kid from god knows where losing a chance because of a lost scholly and not having the money to pay their way through college.

go work in a hs...then go work in a hs where many kids cant go to college not because they dont want to but because they dont have the monetary means and maybe you would understand what i am getting at. i see kids that couldnt go to a junior college without a scholly so i dont care if it affects a psu kid or a kid from any college denying a kid a scholarship for what sandusky did is wrong...fine the crap out of the school, make them have a 3rd party come in and clean house...i dont care but the possibility of taking a kids education away is wrong.

I nominate this thread for the 2012 Most Failed Attempts At Logic award.

1. Yes, this could happen at Iowa. No, the fans would not support the team/coach/program the way Penn State fans have. Our fans want to fire the most successful coach in recent history for not calling a timeout or kneeling at the end of the half. you think they're going to rally around him if they find out he knowingly allowed the rape of children occur on campus facilities? riiiiiight.

see, as annoying as our fan base is for all of it's bipolar tendencies and irrationality, it actually keeps us in check and ensures we will never react this way to this kind of incident.

i agree with your assessment of how fans would react to our coaches in a similar situation.

And what did the players do that was wrong, again? They did what differently than what players did at other schools? And if the players did something wrong, what should they have done differently?Pretty much the answer to all of those questions is that the players did NOTHiNG wrong. Get a clue. Those players are guilty of not one thing.

You know what gets me....... When people bring up the poor players or poor whoever that were affected by the sanctions PSU received. They have options and hey guess what they didn't get raped over and over again while several people at the top of PSU looked the other way.

Sorry the only real victims in this mess are the kids that Sandusky abused. Everybody else can F'ing deal with what happened to their poor little football team because of it.

Makes me sick people are more worried about a football player or football game and FYI that is what got PSU in this mess to begin with.

well, considering that IS what the op was about...before it was derailed.

Here, how about this:

If Iowa had engaged in this atrocity, I'd never set foot on campus for a sporting event again.

I haven't been to a basketball game since the rapist Pierre Pierce and his apologist Alford disgraced Carver Hawkeye Arena, and I used to go to at least a couple of bb games a year, just in case you doubt my resolve.

This is all true.

It appears the cover-ups occur in the academic arena as well.

"In light of the actions taken by the NCAA in the Penn State scandal, here’s a question for you: Do you think that if a professor of, say, economics, was discovered to be a serial sex abuser of young boys, that the university’s economics department would be shut down?"

Spencer: Another child sex saga, different result - delcotimes.com

If the university had become dominated by a "cult of econ program" mentality where everything the econ program did influenced the entire university, and the chair of the econ dept was the most powerful man on campus, then yeah sure

Well said!

At the end of the day football is just a game. Football is not > than life.

Your argument went from absurd to just plain stupid.

If a company breaks the law, should gov't look the other way and not punish them becasue that could mean that Joe Schmo with 5 kids loses his job?

Do you realize that "fining the crap out of the school" will also result in possible loss of education for some? You want to clean house? Why do you hate the children of those people that will be cleaned?

Using the logic of the people worried about the football players, the United States should have never gone to war against Nazi Germany & Japan. The overwelming majority of Germans were not Nazis & very few Japanese knew about or participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
