way too early predict Iowa 2017 win-loss record

it feels like 4-8 to me

Iowa will go 2-1 in non-conference, losing to either Wyoming or @ISU

then lose to PSU, @MSU, OSU, @Wisc, @Neb, @NW, Minn

and beat ILL and Purdue.

final record 4-8

Don't have a great read on next year, it's way too early... Better than 4-8 though. Don't see why we won't be 8-4ish. We will struggle against somebody we shouldn't and beat somebody we shouldn't. We will not lose to the Goofers

Defense:
Good veteran linebackers to hold the core on the run. Defensive line should be decent with the biggest loss being Jaleel. Our D Backs will get tested. Hopefully Manny can stay healthy.

Offense
Brand new QB biggest question mark working with who knows what right now for a play book, but think we can all agree will be better than what we have had. Will the receivers step up? will our tight ends get used more as receivers? Will Wadley remain healthy? Our O Line should be dominate if remains healthy.

I know many people hate hearing this, but that game at Ames will really help test this new QB. A loud environment and even more so if they start time of early evening. Will be a great test for Iowa even though many on here believe ISU shouldn't have much for Iowa.

As far as record, I'd say anywhere from 6 wins to 8 wins. Higher if we don't have an increase in turnovers and lower if we don't. And we won't have Tommy Armstrong to kick around any more.

Also hope we can replace one of the best punters Iowa has had. Hope the new guy gets the jitters worked out early.

Difficult schedule, but I think they have a chance to be better this fall. Penn State and Ohio State will be hard games to win, but at least both are at home. They will beat Wisconsin next year, they just will. Michigan State will be better (they have to better, right?), but they aren't in Penn State or OSUs class right now, still, a tough game. Northwestern - another tough game, but they'll win that one, too. There will be no NDSU-like let down this year in the nonconference games. 9-3 is within reach.

Man... I'd like to see 8 wins. But that might be the ceiling looking at that schedule. No less then 6 I hope. Stanley will need all the 15 extra practices a bowl game would provide going forward.

Practice is over-rated.

We need 15 extra days so the coaches will get off their lazy, complacent, privileged backsides and recruit better talent -- especially KF who is obviously content to cash a huge check from Iowa taxpayers.

I hear your sarcasm loud and clear... I just hope the offensive growing pains aren't too bad at first... Stanley will be fortunate in the sense that just about whatever bumps in the road they have the blame will go to Brian and coaches for awhile anyway. Surely the running game will be good enough to compensate for some passing game growing pains but we'll see..

No taxpayer money. Makes it sound better if one can bitch about Kirk taking their dollars, but he does not get paid by taxpayers. Athletic department revenue pays his salary, so ticket and tv money, etc. probably seat donations for ticket buyers also. So if you don't buy tickets then you aren't paying a dime of Kirk's wages.

Upset to ISU means another classic KIrk season... 7-5. Losing to Penn St, Wisconsin, Ohio St and Nebraska. The upside... we'll win our bowl game.

I'm surprised more people aren't optimistic. There are several reasons:

1) KOK gets young QB's ready like no other Iowa coordinator...lot's of first year successes.
2) Someone other than Greg Davis is the offensive coordinator.
3) Loads of pressure on team Ferentz after hiring his son as OC...see 2015.
4) We are 7 deep on the offensive line and lots of competition to fuel the fire.
5) Vandenburg comes back...possession receiver who can get open all over the field.
6) Wadley could have a huge freaking year if he stays healthy...running and catching.
7) Noah Fant is a year older and probably 15-20 pounds heavier. He could be one of the best TE's ever to play at Iowa...from a receiving standpoint anyway.
8) Losing Desmond and Jaleel hurts, but the cupboard isn't bare. We have talent that just needs to show up. DT is the big concern, but not too concerned about any other position group on defense.
9) We have DE's who can get to the QB. I think Anthony Nelson blows up and I also think Hesse has a big year. Throw in a few other guys too, even the freshman 5 star guy...and we should be able to rush with four and get pressure.

If NS is the young QB everyone thinks he is...well...it could be a pretty special year. I'm thinking surprise at 10-2. There is no way we lose to ISU...even in that rat trap Jack Trice.
