Was yesterday "the last straw" for you?

I doubt you'll find the final one. The question is, will no one ever be satisfied? Kirk haters complained about the coordinators. He changed those. They complained about him running out the clock at the end of the first half with time and timeouts on his side. He's changed that approach a couple of times this year. They complain about him not being aggressive. He's gone for it on 4th down like three times this year when it wasn't imperative in the game to do so.

The reason people complained about those things were because they caused us to lose multiple games. Changing the coordinators has clearly had no positive effect. We continue to lose to or barely beat teams that have no business being in the game. It is unacceptable given the history of the program and the amount of money Ferentz makes. If we didn't have Weisman we would have two offensive touchdowns this season despite playing 4 mediocre/bad teams. Sorry, you can keep the goggles on, but I refuse to wear mine anymore. I don't see any hope with the program with Ferentz at the helm.

I understand where your coming from but just don't get the logic. The big games we've won, we've won the same way that we've lost games. Nothings changed in 10 years regarding the way KF runs his program. IMO, and could easily be argued against, the difference is the players and their ability to get things done. That's why I totally understand people being angry, but I don't think he's changed anything, or lost anything along the way.

Once a Hawk always a Hawk! This football team is not very talented and I don't think it is going to change in the next couple of years, Ferentz is one of the highest paid coaches in the country and going 500 is not going to cut it. The football team is stuck in a rut, and a lot of their more talented recruits have either been kicked out or are playing else where, poor recruiting is killing this team! Losing to Central Michigan on a unforgiveable onside kick is starting to be the norm, the Hawks were not well-coached yesterday, similar to MN games the last couple of years, Ferentz teams seem to always have a let down against inferior teams, no excuse but it is starting to become a pattern.

Yes, for me as well. I WILL not support (by purchasing tickets, etc) anything involved w/ KF. I have believed for almost a decade, has been the worst DI gameday coach, which is OK w/ me, as long as he is the LOWEST paid DI coach. (which of course isn't the case)

It’s more of a slow bleed out for me. I’ll give the coaching staff changes through next year to settle in. If they aren’t showing a lot of growth by next year than I believe it’s time to move on. I have a lot of patience. I also don’t see very high success rates for coaching changes at mid level programs.

I too already gave up.... I have a friend that can give me his season tickets to use most games, but I live on the western edge of iowa and it is an expensive endeavor to find the motel room, gas, plus you lose most of your weekend etc. just to see the boys play like this with this emotional level so down etc. Before my father died we had season tickets for years and we drove 5 hours one way each home game to watch Fry "scratch where it itches" and we loved it! Dad would go to the bowl games even though he couldn't afford it.... We buried him last month in his hawkeye clothes... so we too bleed black and gold but it is dwindling
Kirk is a good good man and I wish the college could put him in some pr job along with the university hospital, but I have wasted enough time watching this team too ( oh and I went to soldier field this year too, yeah for me!) you may now all attack me....

Good Post! I too went to Soldier Field this year and it will be my last game. 440 mile round trip to IC to watch a product like this is too much.

A lot of fundamentally bad coaching habits keep occurring. Bad clock management, poor preparedness, crappy third down plays on offense and schemes on defense. Same old shinola year after year. Superior talent can gloss over that garbage, but you get into a season like that and look out below.

If anyone has goggles on, it's you. It's clear that you have tunnel vision on in the hate for KF. What I get tired of is people complaining about is how much Kirk makes. Why do you care how much he gets paid? Don't buy Iowa themed items then. Would you be happier with a guy that wins 4 games a year and gets paid $800k?

Don't play the what if game about Weisman because you don't know how Brad Rogers would have done or anyone else they put in. The person posting after you made good points about how that same "old" philosophy also helped us win games. You and a lot of the other complainers have the same problem. You say, "hey, he should have done it this way," then when he does do it the way you would have liked and it fails to work, you say, "you dummy, any other coach could have made that work." You could never please fans with an attitude like that.

Sadly, it was not for me. The last straw came in November 2010, when Iowa lost to Minnesota. The problems have mounted since then: players kicked off the team, impregnating teammates' girlfriends, the whole rhabdo thing, and throw in the same old coaching and play that has resulted in losses to Iowa State, Minnesota and now Central Michigan.

This isn't a football program, this is a soap opera.

If that was your last straw stop posting on HN because you don't care anymore.

What is it about football fans, when they have to endure something less than ideal, that they turn into 12 year old girls?

Surely anyone with a hint of self-awareness would realize how overly dramatic this whole "last straw" crap is. I swear, an outsider with no context wouldn't know if this is about football, or if your former BFF Kaitlyn is trying to ruin your life by telling everyone about your mom's drinking problem.

Actually, I think my "last straw" (however you define that) came after the loss to ISU. I'm not done being an Iowa fan, but "something" snapped in me after that loss. Not that I was exactly surprised to lose that game, but that is part of the problem anymore.

Watching the ISU loss, I realized at that point just how bad of a season it looked like it's going to be. It doesn't mean I'm going to stop following what the program is doing, etc. and will always be a Hawk fan, but I made a conscious decision after the ISU loss, for sanity's sake, to distance myself emotionally from Iowa football. As of this past Saturday, it looks like I made the right choice. I didn't see much of the game, and it doesn't look like I missed alot.

This is probably for the best. People who are emotionally children prolly shouldnt watch football.

Takeaways from this thread: (1) Duff is wiser than all of you; and (2) even though Duff is wiser than all of you, he is still indignant when the predictable occurs (i.e., when fans become upset after a bad loss).

This is how I feel as well.

They have several new coaches this year, and the youngest team that KF has fielded. The 2008-9 recruiting classes basically sucked, and attrition has been high. So, I am not shocked that they are bad this year.

Next year is a bit of a make or break year, at least for me. If they suck next year, I think I'll be ready to move on. They should have a lot of returning depth back next year. Losing to Minny, a MAC team, etc. will be even more unpalatable next year. I'm super frustrated, as we all are, but I'm willing to ride this out through next year before I strongly consider coughing up the season tix.

You take that back! You take that back right now!

At any rate, football fans are just like anonymous internet warriors. Everyone's an expert...yet no one is.
