Warren Ruggiero

Spring ball just about here.

RB coach should be hired soon, likely before spring ball.

Ruggiero has an interesting football background. High school QB in New Jersey, attended U of Delaware, coaching stops at Defiance, Clarion, Glenville St, William & Mary, Hofstra, Elon, Kansas St, Bowling Green, then to Wake Forest all as QB coach or OC.

He evidently knows offense.

Warren Ruggiero's time at Iowa will probably be less than 1 year. He is well regarded as a college football OC. It is likely he will get snagged up as an assistant coach by next year. The offensive analyst position will give him the freedom to accept an OC position immediately if offered.

Unless the plan is for Lester to become HC, Ruggiero OC, LeVar Woods DC (Phil is leaving when Kirk does).

Get ready for some read-option, and perhaps lots of it. That is Ruggiero's specialty.

It will hard to recognize our offense after fully incorporating Lester's Shanahan/LeFleur concepts and Ruggiero's read-option concepts.

I hope it means we'll be moving the ball consistently.

Given how Lester completely re-vamped the quarterback room to fit what he wants to do…you are not going to get any complaints from me.

Lester gave the offense a pulse this past season, even with a severely depleted QB room. It wasn't awesome, but it resembled competence. If he continues that trendline this season, and actually puts an offense on the field that is something more than just competent, he will have my vote to take the keys when KF rides off into the sunset.
