Video of Koethe slam in state semis

The Paulus one is total B.S. No way in hell that's a slam.
Koethe, i didn't think it was as bad as last year, but you can't leave your feet like he did. he more than anyone should know that. I feel really, really bad for Paulus. That's just wrestling.

I admit that it has been nearly thirty years since I wrestled in high school, but when I wrestled both would have been allowed (IMO, they should be allowed). Looks to me all a wrestler has to do is get in a position to be thrown to the mat and then fake injury. Weak...

Or I am just being a hard ---

Both unfortunate, borderline calls that were initiated in the heat of action. $#!+ happens. Can't put the match in the ref's hands.

By the book it's a slam. A weak rule if you ask me. That's one that could've been allowed.

Is there a slam rule in college.

Is it a slam when you are part of the slam? I know this sounds dumb but it's not like Koethe threw his opponent to the mat, he returned his opponent to the mat while covering the move. he endangered himself as much as he endangered his opponent.

Again, I see this move all the time in collegiate wrestling.

The Paulus one was crap, but I would agree with the Koethe call. I'd call that a slam. It unfortunate that it happened when it did. Has Koethe had a problem with this in the past? What's his story?

Koethe got called for an illegal slam last year at the state tournment costing him a shot at a title as well. Last years slam wasn't questionable like this year was.

I saw both of these matches live and I would agree with a couple of the statements above.

With the Matt Paulus slam from my angle I didn't think it was a fair call, however the kid from Central Lyon received a concussion and was not cleared to wrestle the rest of the tournament and finished 6th.

With the Koethe slam I thought that was a fair call, the sound of the Sioux City kid hitting the mat was loud and he apparently dislocated his shoulder. It was to bad for Koethe because he didn't need to do it because he was dominating the match and the kid from Sioux City had no chance in that match. I think Koethe just got carried away in the moment.

Koethe is a really physical explosive wrestler. I think he wrestles Iowa's style, imposes his will and dominates. It is obviously dumb to slam a kid when he can avoid it, but I also wonder if it is a case of man among boys. Ex. if high school kid is wrestling a jr. high kid slams are more likely. He is definitely a different quality wrestler than the kid he slammed.

Either way in a year from now I think we'll mention his name with some of the best high school wrestlers to win only one title.

The Paulus call was a real bad call. I think the reason Koethe was called for the slam was because the other wrestler had no way of suppressing himself.

all i can say is he'll be thinking about that match for the rest of his life...stupid stupid stupid

this one is a joke and should be looked at by iowa officials....to bad for the kid but was clearly not a slam

I think that's a slam. By rule the offensive wrestler is required to return him in a safe manner. Paulus lifted him in the air then drove him into the mat. Had he lifted him and came down straight with him it would have been fine. I think the fact that he was driven in to the mat made it a slam. I have seen worse not called, but that doesn't make this one the wrong call.
