Video: Kirk Ferentz Not Pleased with Officiating

So what, we are not pleased with the coaching. How far is that getting us? Exactly..... the last two losses are because of the coaches. Nothing has changed, Refs won't change, how about coaches quit making dumb decisions so when a Ref blows a call it doesn't matter

I didn't look up if the officials crew that worked the Purdue/Iowa game was the same as the one that worked the OhioState/Purdue game, but I saw a lot of similarity with how Purdue's defensive backs were allowed to be quite physical with the receivers in those two games. Ohio State has some pretty good receivers and they were being knocked around pretty good. It will only be a matter of time until the coaches convince the head of big ten officials to get it cleaned up.

I disagree on your last point. The shove to Moss was big...and illegal. It's what guys try to get away with all the time...but in that setting with a tear drop pass...that's a missed call and it was obvious. Moss was tracking the ball then all the sudden he was going the other way. Offensive pass interference.

Purdue followed the defensive game plan that has beaten Iowa forever. Rough up their receivers and try to get away with as much as you can...it works. Our receivers need to fight back. When they have to block a DB...they need to punish them...especially Smith. They need to be more physical getting out of their breaks and shove off too...until it's called.

Michigan State has been a master at this for years. They push the line on being physical and adjust to how the game is being officiated. Probably the reason they seem to get away with so much. They are great at the art of being as dirty as they possibly can be. It has cost them at times but others it doesn’t

prime example: their end zone INT against Iowa in the B1G championship game. 9 times out of 10 that INT is overturned by targeting on Kittle hit and Iowa has it 1st and goal with half the distance. But instead it’s a game changing play for them. Probably didn’t help that Kittle is tough and he didn’t flop around like a dying fish like most guys do.

That being said, you just can’t leave it in college refs’ hands to decide a game. You have to expect bad calls against you.

I get the point, but, if you go back and watch the replay, it wasn't nearly as blatant if you watch it objectively. All good receivers use subtle little push offs. Generally, refs are not going to call it unless the arm extends quite a bit. It's on the DB to learn how to fight through that.

Think of it this way, if that was an Iowa receiver, and a push off was called, we'd all be complaining about it being a ticky-tacky call. Tavaun Smith did the exact same thing in the B1G championship and Iowa fans were railing on the MSU fans for complaining.

And even the TV announcers were stunned that it wasn't an offensive pass interference call. They mentioned it in real time and on every one of the replays. Yet..... no call.

The TV announcers used the term egregious when the refs got together and waived the horsecollar flag.

There were bad calls against Iowa all game long, but the 4 in a row during crunch time were most critical. At such an important stage it’s difficult for any team to overcome such bad officiating.

These were: 2 nonsense holding calls, the nob PI call on 3rd and long where the DB clearly hit ISM early, and the defensive PI at the end. How can they possibly call that when the previous no call was so egregious?
