Viacom Back In The Day - Am I Crazy?

I was thinking about the broadcasting of old football games in the 1980's & 90's. Many of the games were on I think Viacom or Raycom or something with local broadcasters like Wayne Larrivee. The BIG would prob have a nationally broadcasted ABC game with the likes of Ohio St or Michigan & sometimes a team like Iowa in the mid 1980's, etc.. These were big games.

I think back in the day for the regular broadcasted games, it seems the kickoff for the first game was at 11:00 a.m. like it is today, but then always followed by a 1:00 p.m. kickoff for a second game. The BIG game on a national network would always come later about 2:30. Anyway, is it correct that the first game would usually only take a couple hours and be done by 1:00 p.m. for the 2nd game? Am I crazy? If so, I can't image a game being done in 2 hrs. Games were always at 11:00 and 1:00.

Am I getting something wrong?

You are misremembering. They were not completed in two hours.

There weren't the iron clad TV windows, where everything was essentially a national broadcast like it is today. The network broadcasts and Raycom or syndicated broadcasts overlapped.

Take a look at the 1986 Iowa schedule. The CBS games were 2:30pm. The Raycom or syndicated games were 1pm. WTBS(!!!) had a couple at 11:30am.
