Very Early 2011 Top 25...

My biggest beef with this was that we were ranked 47th in the nation. I just thank that's too low. I can see mid to high 30's but upper 40's is ridiculous. I have a good feeling we go 8-4 next year and finish with a bowl win that pushes us into the top 25 ala 2008.

Iowa will be a better team next year. There was something amiss with this team this year, especially down the stretch. Whether it was "the problem" or just team chemistry or maybe Kirk lost the team, but next year they will be better. Wisconsin at 13 is laughable. I don't get it. For some reason they get some love at the beginning of each season. Heck, I'll guarantee you if Iowa wins that game in Iowa City this year, and they should have, Iowa probably goes onto the same type of season as Wisconsin. Also Iowa has gotten the better of the Badgers over the years. Iowa only loses one starter on the offensive line and I'll take Vandenburg over their backup Budmyr. Iowa will be better than the Badgers next year.

Iowa is the 3rd or 4th best 7-5 team in the country (behind only USC and Northwestern (scoreboard) and maybe Notre Dame). I'd be shocked if Iowa didn't surprise some people next year because we are in some pretty good company in terms of where we stand relative to the other 7-5 teams out there and this year was a bit of a rebuilding year due to key losses at LB and OL, so I think we finish in the top 10 next year.

haha this guy doesn't know jack as someone said about having us 8th this year...Another thing people...there are only TWO teams in the NCAA that haven't lost a game by more than 7 in 3 years....Boise State and....Iowa. Iowa is competitive in every game, that's all I ask for.

And if we beat Mizzou, everyone will be excited again....so settle.

And btw...TCU is going to take Wisky out behind the woodshed....I personally can't wait.

These message board idiots look at the year we lost 44-7 at ASU and again at Michigan, but then finished 10-2 by taking care of business against evenly matched teams and by beating the cellar dwellers and say they would rather have a 10-2 year with a blowout instead of a 7-5 year with close losses to Northwestern and Minnesota. They are dumb, I want Iowa to be there at the end of every game, I don't care if we lose some. 17 points on offense against Minnesota and NU is the best we should ever expect and the D just needs to tighten up a little bit and we would have been 12-0. But in 2004, when we got blown out in Arizona, you couldn't look at that team and say "we were just a few plays away from 12-0" because we got dominated that night in the desert.

You are a moron...I'm not happy about offensive production against those last few teams either...but there was a point in time in this programs history where in leading up to a game with OSU there wasn't anybody asking if we would show up and beat them....the question was would we get past midfield/would we get a first down.

I'm not above questioning the coaches (our playcalling on offense and DEFENSE sucks) yes I'm not above questioning the great Norm Parker....I ask you why does our Defense not shift when opponents audible? Look at every defense worth a dang in these bowl games...what are they doing? Blitzing, bringing different guys, disguising coverage, we don't blitz AND we give wideouts a 5 yard cushion...no wonder spread teams excel against us...take the snap and wing it to a reciever for 5 yards.

And offensively don't even get me started...

But more often than not Kirk and his guys have Iowa in a position to win the game...And Hayden and now Kirk have brought this program to an unprecedented place.

I'm going to be supporting the Hawks against Mizzou.

After the way we played this year, the recent off-field issues, and as much as we are losing from our team, particularly on defense, I guess I am not surprised we aren't getting any love. We'll have to earn our way back into the Top 25.

Lose 1st round NFL caliber OL Carimi & Moffit, TE Hendricks, QB Tolzein, WR Gilreath & Andersen...no way is their offense anything near what it was this year, or last year. defense should be better.

That's interesting Jon, because I remember the Hawkeyes finishing 8th the year after losing 2 All-American OL (Nelson, Steinbach + a solid tackle David Porter), a Heisman runner-up QB, an All-American TE, our #2 WR and KR (CJ Jones). Also, add in two defenders who saw time in the NFL in Pagel and Cole.

We can talk about how stupid these ratings are all we want, but IMO anyone it's not even January yet, no BCS bowl games have been played, and people are already rating the 2011 preseason. I don't know what's more pathetic, preseason polls out this early people getting worked up about them.
