Uthoff why not go Juco and anywhere he wants?

I asked this in the other thread but it got buried. If Uthoff has to sit out a year prior to playing and will only have three years of eligibility remaining, why wouldn't he go to a Juco first? When done there he could go anywhere he wanted, including all the schools in the big ten.

He still gets to practice with whatever school he goes with (and maybe he doesn't want to go to a BIG10 team anyway). Better to play JUCO ball for a year or practice with a D1 team for a year and get to know your future teammates?

I can't really think of any big time transfers that went the JUCO route.

that might be true, but my point is he can go wherever he wants, just cause the bten is blocked doesn't mean he's a lock to go elsewhere. if he wants to go to Iowa he can. if he wants to go elsewhere he will.

I have been saying the same thing, on paper it seems like going to a juco would make a lot of sense since he has already burned his red shirt. To transfer to Iowa State he would have to sit out another year. Kirkwood and Indian Hills have great reputations of playing good basketball and developing their players. I think he might have to pay his own way there but Kirkwood is not expensive.

I don't know how credits transfer and such, but wouldn't he have to graduate from the JUCO to be eligible? If he could not complete the degree in one year with his Wisc. transfer credits, then he'd have to stay another semester.

Originally I thought, duh, why would a D1 player go to a juco? But this actually seems to make sense in this situation. He would get game experience instead of practicing and sitting out games for another year.
Don't think he will, but maybe he should.

You would think the credits would transfer from Wisconsin and he would graduate from Juco in 1 season.

I can think of a couple of reasons:

1) As Cliche has mentioned, is going JUCO better than going to the D1 school you choose and practicing for a year? I think he believes he will be better off going to the D1 school and acclimating instead of JUCO.

2) Sort of like a player deciding to go pro or going back to college; what if he goes JUCO and doesn't impress? Then, his profile is lowered. He may be trying to play the percentages and thinks his profile is as high as it can be with not playing at all last year. He has schools that want him now. This is only a guess on my part.

no one is saying he would go juco instead of the school he really wants to attend. we are saying he could use the juco to attend a school he wants to attend but is blocked (a bten school)

again, no one is saying he should or will. we are saying if he wants to go to a bten school there is no reason he can't.

Since he is going to visit a school next week that wasn't blocked (Creighton), are we even sure he wants to go to a school that was blocked. I think the fact that Wisconsin continually added schools to the blocked list (Florida, Virginia, etc.) was the reason he appealed, not necessarily that he wanted to go to a Big 10 school. And then there is ISU. :)

Now, if he does he want to go Big 10, then JUCO is probably the best way.

Obviously you do since you took the time to read the thread.

Well, that's flawless logic. In that case, blah blah blah blah Bo Ryan is teh Satan, blah blah blah Fred Hoiberg's Blackberry, blah blah blah blah blah blah unathletic Lick ball player.

Let's say for a second he does want to come to Iowa, would it be tampering for Fran to suggest this to him? I suppose Uthoff would have to contact Fran first.

Edit - stfu Ghost! :D

Some possible reasons he wouldnt do this
-lower quality of education
-he could go to a juco and not perform well and not be offered scholarships to a btn school
-he doesnt want to go to a btn school
-he could be injured and not be offered a full ride to a 4 year university
