Uthoff goes undrafted.....are you Serious?

I wasn't expecting him to be drafted at all. Once it became obvious from the middle of the season on that the only thing you have to do to get him off his game is get physical with him and body him up, then the writing was pretty much on the wall. If he can't handle physical play in college, then there's no way he can handle it in the NBA.

Might be the dumbest thing I've read on here in a long time. Every coach wants his players to get drafted as that is a recruiting advantage, especially in the NBA where not as many get drafted. They promote their players as they still have their best interest to look out for.

Maybe you didn't get the subtlety of how I wrote it. I wrote it stating it was a possibility but not stating it as if it were fact or even a probable event.

Then you must not have noticed that I followed it up it with another post that it was probably due to his age and the fact that I read it was a deep draft because I realized the possibility that Fran didn't give him a good reference was remote.

I admitted I was probably wrong on that one.

It was a deep draft plus he's 23 already-ancient for NBA standards.

Who knows, maybe Fran gave him a less-then-glowing reference to scouts. Seem to remember hearing about Fran and JU screaming F-bombs at each other when we lost to Illinois in the B1G tournament.
I tried to muff my ears but it came thru loud and clear. Body slamming awesome!

Sorry, I didn't mean to be so bold. I don't know that his age hurt him all that much. 23 still leaves many years of play if a player is half way good & fits the NBA. I just don't think the NBA people shyed away from his age like others have stated. If he met the other criteria they would have jumped on him.

Come NBA draft time you hear the word "upside" used a lot. The thought process(right or wrong, silly or not) is that once you reach a certain point in your college career or a certain age you are considered maxed out talent wise. NBA teams are looking for upside, potential.

Niang will go to Europe. Nader is apparently going to the D league. Hopefully Uthoff has been hitting the weights and can land on a team kind of like the late BDJ.

Not talking at you, trj.

Cuz nobody has ever improved talent wise during their stint in the NBA.... silly NBA tards. How did Ryan Bowen or Matt Bullard last so long in the NBA?

It's all good, brutha.......If Uthoff were 18 or 19 and had a similar season like he did last year it would be a completely different ballgame. He is probably a late 1, early 2nd round pick. The talk would be about his "upside" and how they could mold him into being more mentally tough. There are notable exceptions, but in general that is how the league thinks.

Jarod signed with Boston. They need 3 point shooting so he could find a spot there. This wasn't a good draft at the top, but very deep from about 12 - 72. Several UDFA will make a roster this year. Good luck to Jarod and all those trying to blame Fran - you are crazy.

Sometimes I think Jarrod's "I'm too cool to drool" attitude is a detriment. You can play that if you are a dominant player, but I suspect GM's looking at possible rookies want to see a little fire out of their prospects. Niang has that quality and, frankly, I don't see him as a better player than Jarrod. They both have their own skillsets.

Read today that more and more players are declining late 2nd round offers because they don't want to be stashed in the D league or Europe so maybe what JU's agent said wasn't exaggerated. It's not as much of a stigma for guys to not be drafted as compared to being a 2nd rounder as it used to be.

As for him being 23 and that working against him I think it's probably true. NBA execs look at them as assets and a 23 year old guy will give you 3 less years of good basketball than a 20 year old than that's a point against him in determining whether to draft him or not.

None of this has anything to do with JU's attitude or age. It's his basketball and athletic talent. Glad he came to Iowa though.

This past year Iowa was lacking in talent...again...thus the swoon when they were figured out...collapse...

It's hard to predict what JU could be with another 25 or 30 lbs of muscle. NBA trainers can put that on him in a couple of years.
Don't know if JU giving up the ball at the end of important games was a factor or not but it would be a red flag for me. I want guys that want the ball. Demand the ball when the game is on the line.

He's summer camping with Sacramento. Not like the Kings are loaded with talent so I'd give him a slugger's chance of getting on their roster next season.
