Uthoff and Jok what kind of players are they... strengths?

I'm not arguing with the fact that Lickliter didn't get it done at Iowa. He didn't get it done, period. What I am saying is there is more to making a program work than just x's and o's.

Lick had one thing going for him at Butler, the assistant. Since he got to and left Iowa he has a new thing he's trying to get going for him, Lil Lick.

Uthoff will probably be a better fit at the 3 than White is. Uthoff likes to work outside the paint and has a more consistent shot than White. I would rather see us use more zone when we have White playing the 3. Same thing for next year if either White or Uthoff play the 3. Both of those guys can play a little further off their man on the perimeter, yet still be able to get a hand up because of their length. That will also provide them with help nearby should the person they're guarding get a step on them.

Right now, Jok is a deadly shooter with NBA range and close to above-average athleticism. Like others have said though, if he ends up regaining his athleticism pre-injury he is elite. If things end up falling into place with him he would have good chance at starting at the 3.

I was thinking this exact same thing. I think the way this team is constructed Fran might want to start moving more toward zone defense. We have a lack of lateral quickness to defined man to man, but we have a lot of length that is hard to pass and shot over. Marble, Ogelsby, White, Basabe all have length that make them effective in zone defense. Add in Jok and Uthoff next year and you have the makings of a matchup zone that can cause problems for many teams.

Uthoff is more like marble than he is white. He is a perimeter player and defends the wing better than white does.

Jok will be a more athletic version of ogelsby and he has the makings of a capable defender. He will give us a second true shooter.

I don't really agree with you.

Lickliter didn't get it done at Iowa, that much is clear. However I don't think he's a bad coach. He was highly successful at Butler and you don't forget how to do things overnight. I think it was a perfect storm of things that didn't go his way at Iowa in addition to fans turning on him.

People are really in support of your current coach but what has he done that has been so much better other than have higher scoring games? I guess I just don't see why there should be such a wide gap between your previous coach and your current one.

Yeah, you're wrong. Todd Lickliter had two good teams in his first two years at Butler because they were chock full of Barry Collier/Thad Matta recruits, then he was profoundly mediocre for three seasons (in the Horizon, that's saying something...during this time Illinois-Chicago had a better record than Butler, I'm not making that up), before scoring one magical season which unfortunately propelled him into a Big Ten job for which he was woefully unprepared. The myth that Todd Lickliter was like Brad Stevens at Butler is just that...a myth.

This could not be more wrong. Uthoff is much more comparable to White than Marble and Uthoff is most definitely not a perimeter defender.

Yeah that's not true.

White is an above the rim, court running, energy guy. That isn't uthoff. Uthoff is a catch and shoot pull up midrange jumper scorer. He doesn't play above the rim or really down low. He handles better than white and shoots better than white. He is long and tall but not as strong or physical as white. He is very good making things happen with the ball in his hands and is a very good passer. His game is more of a in between version of white and marble with more of a lean to marble. He is a better fit for the 3 spot offensively and defensively than white is. He could play the 4 against smaller teams (kind of like white has played the 5 against small teams this year).

Than you are a fool.

Licklieter was a horrible recruiter. Phil Jackson couldn't have produced a winning season with the players licklieter was bringing in.

Lick had a ridiculous strategy to win in the big ten. Who give a rats @$$ if it worked in a lower tier mid major conference. Apples to Oranges.

The players he did get did not like him, so we had 2 or 3 players leaving every year.

Fran is superior in every possible way.

If sweeping 1 team in the conference is the goal of your team then you are right Lickliter didn't accomplish that. What is the goal of your team? To beat Wisconsin every year but not make much growth defensively as a team/program?

You don't become National Coach of the Year by not knowing what you are doing.

Kirk Ferentz did.

jok is not a three specialist.

uthoff is not like white at all.

other than that, nice comparison LOL

Time will tell, but I think your's and Bo's attitude on Uthoff is what made him transfer. Kid is NOT a White type player, and not an inside banger. He has good handles, can pass, and can shoot. White is great, I love him, but the "experiment" with White at the 3 is over, he is not a perimeter player and needs to be around the basket, rebounding, dunking, and getting fouled. Hitting the occasional 3 pter doesn't make White a SF, just like being 6'8 doesn't make Uthoff a PF.
